That's pretty cool! We've always had some on our property 35 miles NE of here, but recently I noticed a few around (on Rochelle) here and there much closer to home. First time in the 6 yrs I've been here that we see them close to home. What do you do to keep them around? I mean besides killing Wylie...

Re: Recoil pad for a Win 1886 lever gun
My Kick-Eeze pad is fitted to the gun, but I did not have to alter the stock at all. Took off the metal buttplate, shaped the Kick-eeze and voila! It doesnt look bad at all as it is just plain black colored with no colors, lines or texturing on it. It adds needed length and reduces recoil great.

Ant reasonable caliber would work with the right shot placement. I have not had many 30-30 Partitions lose the front on deer but it almost always happens on hogs. These are going much faster than a typical load so that probably makes it worse.

Bullard - I cant be sure but I think I may not have gotten through and through penetration. I think it would have easy been deadly but quite possibly the bullet would have expanded very quickly and like Partitions do, lost its front.

Interesting. I was able to get two 100-round plastic sleeves of WW 40gr high velocity 22LR at the local feed store for $9.29 per box. They only got 3 boxes with their total ammo shipment and I bought all 3. The price is up but not completely unreasonable like some places I have been hearing about.

We shoot a lot of CCI Long in the back here. I bought a case of 1000 for $25 a while back. Out of the 16.5 in Henry they get 706 fps. In a 20 in barrel bolt gun they get 694 fps average. Mediocre accuracy but fun and quiet. We're about out of them so I got CCI Match Short. These are way louder but s...

What deer and where? Deer is such a generic term. In the Southwest we have full sized, mature deer at less than 100 pounds. Columbia blacktail can be low 100 pounds. Northern whitetails have been known to go 300 pounds or a bit more. Muley's vary by region too. The bigger the deer and colder the cli...

Re: Shooting .44 Specials out of a .44 Mag 1892?
Maybe the Specials are losing velocity as the bullet jumps to get into the rifling and gas escapes by. I think trying the Mag cases with light loads is a good place to start and then if you cant move the sights more you may have to adjust the projectile weight to get the impact where you want it.

Everyone has summed this up well already. It is not so much the caliber but the amount of recoil energy, rearward velocity and distance of travel of the recoiling rifle and displacement of the energy that directly effect how it feels to the shooter. A properly fit stock and a recoil pad that complim...

I like the Remington and the Ruger but for the money I would look hard at the STI's. The Spartan/Trojan guns are made on frames cast by Armscorp in the Phillipines right next to RIA and others. The upper and all the insides are 100% STI and the final gun is hand-fitted and tested. LIFETIME WARRANTY ...
