Re: Amanda's first deer

Yeah imho it's a great round. I wish they had done a similar thing by necking the 30rem down to 7mm and putting it in a bolt action but oh well. She's doing well, we'll sight it in for 50 yards and try a couple bullets on hogs. I'm bringing a 35 rem in .357 mag pistol. The results of her 7-30 have m...

Amanda's first deer

Finally got her fist rifle and has been putting in range time. It's got a lever to open it, so we'll count it as a levergun, lol TC contender in 7-30 waters. 86er, I would go for it. I would be willing to bet that if you asked 100 ethical hunters if they would do it, many would say no and give a bunch of reasons. I bet if they owned the ranch and the money was coming there way..they would have far fewer qualms. You're harvesting animals for a client, I d...

Re: OT- "Go shoot these animals for me"

I say make sure it's legal (non-native species on private land...sounds legal), and make sure the guy is legit. Those are my only concerns, if that checks out, I wouldn't lose a bit of sleep on if it's ethical or not. If the animal is expected to die quickly after being shot, it's ethical in my book.

Yeah mine has been worked on a tad, I think I have 350 in it before scope and rings. Crosman sells a peep sight similar to a williams that fits that dovetail under my scope. They are fun, but agreed a LOT pricey. Great if you're into the collecter stuff, but they are not great airguns in and of themselves. For that kinda cash you can get a much more accurate and powerfull airgun. But...for looks and fun sometimes form is more important than function. That said..red ride...

I love my .243 win, but I think she's going to have a blast with the 7-30. We may pick up a less expensive scope to start with, there's a little 3-9x32 that is trim and will fit the little carbine well, we may look there first.

Starter meaning first one, not any reputation on the round itself. I would call a starter gun one which the person starts huting with. I got it because I think it will do 90% of what we need for as long as we need, and she can be a bit less choosy about shot placement than me with my .243 win.

Light and fast for me, means shoot them in the soft parts, expansion, penetration, and dead animals think .243.
