Re: Marlin vs Winchester

My Winchester's action is slick, but then it was my Granddad's rifle for a good many years. The action on my 1895 is slick, and the trigger is far superior to my Winchester. As far as power goes, I personally don't need any more than a 400 to 500 grain bullet at 1400 or so FPS these days. I apprecia...

Marlin vs Winchester

Just going to throw an opinion out there. In the world where I am happily carrying a lever action rifle in the middle of nowhere, I will say that in the hand, the Winchester 94 beats the Marlin, when I say Marlin, I am referring to the 336/1895/444 size action, the 1894 carries as nice as my Winches...

Earl that is awesome! Wish I had picked up the 6 gang when RD was still selling them. I went with a plain based mould simply because I pretty much powder coat everything but my Sharps bullets these days. I don't lube any of the pistol bullets, but when shooting in the rifles I tend to lube them as w...

Earl, I will do the same until I can get the rifle sorted out. Looking forward to running these through the rifle, hopefully next weekend. I am really loving the renewed levergun love affair. New Mould Arrived

Casts a beautiful 115 grain tumble lubed bullet in true Ranch Dog form. I will try and get a picture on here later, but this bullet brings to the forefront the only true complaint I have with this particular Marlin, a short to non-existent throat. While this bullet cycles fine with the brass trimmed...

If you would have asked me when I was a kid, I would have told you a Ruger Blackhawk 357 could kill just about anything. I am looking forward to trying out some mouse fanny burp loads in the Marlin 32-20. Thanks Joe, I wouldn't want you to go to the trouble, I am not hurting for bullets. Even though it's lighter than I want, and the nose isn't the correct dimension for the 32-20, the 100gr RCBS shoots well enough for now. Loaded over Bullseye it makes a quiet fun loading for short range work.

I have an old Mitchell Arms 44 Magnum that has the opposite problem, it shoots 6-8 inches high at 25 yards. It was my granddad’s, so I won’t let it go, but someday I hope to find a taller front sight blade since it seems to be replaceable. I do know when removing metal, slow is best!
