TwoDot, Yes, that's a bad deal with the oil pipeline breaking. I don't think anyone really knows how much oil got dumped. Nothing like a little fishing to make the yard work go faster. As a guess I'd say you are located below Holter someplace? .. Yep, were something like 18 mi downstream, right at the 244 exit. You've probably heard about all the flooding along the Missouri River in MT. In fact, about 20 feet of my lower lawn is covered with water to about 18" deep. At the downstream end of my little lot is a volunteer cottonwood tree that has reached pretty large size in the past 8 years or so. This ...

Wow, Jack, that's a lot of info about primers. Obviously you know your stuff.
I thought primers almost became extinct a couple of years ago. At least they were virtually unavailable everywhere I looked.

Saw a box of original 44 Henry (flat) cartridges in a recent Little John's Auction Catalog (May, 2011). IIRC, they expected this old box of cartridges to bring $2300 + at auction. Would make it a little spendy to use for plinking !!! How many of you know that the 44 Henry has two (2) firing pins? Su...

I'm guessing the 40-65 might refer to caliber ??
Weren't there also sometimes numbers/other symbols placed on guns returned to the factory for extensive modification or refitting of barrels??

I understand that some of the movie prop guns were made of "cast rubber" or some such. Then when they were thrown around or needed to beat on someone's head, little damage would be done. Even one of the Terminator's big guns (I didn't see the movie) were made of very light material so that...

I think those may be gopher (or bull) snakes. The head looks a mite small to be a rattlesnake. I don't see any definitive rattlesnake field marks in the picture. Markings look like gopher snakes. Also, the body seems too slender for a rattlesnake of the length of most of them. Just my guess.
