Re: I got BANNED from the Marlin forum!!!!
. Marlin Owners threatened to ban me so I just left. The reason? In a post about the Hornady FTX bullets, I said they were NOT the "holy grail" of bullets and did not shoot well in all rifles. That the advantages of the FTX, in my opinion, was just marketing hype to sell bullets. It turns ...

Re: Extra 200 fps--who cares?
I've read for years about lots of cartridges being greatly improved since they shoot the bullet 2-300 fps faster than the older cartridge. That used to mean something to me, but no more. If the bullet is placed accurately the animal will not know the difference. And, I'll receive a little less muzz...

. I shoot a great deal of 38 Spec in 38 cases in a Marlin 1894 C. In fact that is all that I shoot in that gun, I have a twin 1894 C that I shoot 357 Mag only in that one. After a hundred rounds or so in the 38 Spec gun the chamber gets a carbon ring from shooting 38 Specials and can cause a dangero...

Re: Slugged my 38-55 today
Some of us have already had to skin this cat with other obsolete calibers! My 40-82 is a good example. The "factory" bore diameter is .406, my gun has a bore of .409, so I shoot a .410 bullet. I resize 45-90 Starline brass to 40-82, trim them to length and reload them. A .410 bullet will ...

. You say that thinner brass is not an option? Why is that? I like the 10 gr Unique under a 245 grain LaserCast .380. It runs about 1350 to 1400 fps in my 24 to 26 inch barrel guns. That's out of the "cowboy" range and it works well out to 400 to 600 yards. Is your brass head stamped 38-55...

The standard Cowboy model is a 38 Spec/357 Mag rifle. The Cowboy Competition model is the slicked up 38 Spec. only.O.S.O.K. wrote:I thought those were all the slickered up 38 Special models?

Jason, I have to agree with Gak, A used Marlin or Winchester is better than a new any-thing-else. They are the standard by which everything else is judged. I have a number of Winchesters but I shoot Marlins.

I think the DRC leverguns like those of Big Horn Armory are totally redesigned from the ground up for the cartridges listed. I don't think anyone is going to re-chamber a marlin and have it hold together against the pressure of a .454, .500 S&W, 460 S&W, etc.; I don't think anyone who has r...

I have polished the trigger nose with 600 but have not messed with the engagement angle and am loath to take it to a gunsmith, there are too many shadetree mechanics in the trade. Will keep trying. . You are correct, there were a few 375 AE but not many. The Monte Carlo stocks were standard on Big Bores in the mid-80's. Early Big Bores were not serial numbered with the main production 94's. Some had BB prefixes and some had the AE prefix. A 307 with non-rebounding hammer would have to be a ver...
