Re: Early Model Ruger Blackhawk question
.IIRC, the early .44 Blackhawk/Flat-Top's were the same size frame & fluted cylinder as the .357's, the .44 not moving to a stronger, larger frame & un-fluted cylinder until the 1959 intro of the Super Blackhawk.. Actually the 44 magnum Ruger's have always been large cylinder frames, whethe...

Re: 40-82 WCF Pet loads Anyone?
I used 23.5 of AA5744 with 1/4 sheet of TP placed on top of the powder topped with a 260gr soft lead bullet. Just curious, did you ever try it without the TP? Granted I don't have a ton of experience with AA5744 but when I was using it in very large cases (i.e. 416 Rigby) it didn't seem to be bothe...

Not fond of the scope, too new, needs one more period correct or the chambering (personal preference) but I could live with it. Otherwise that's a dang good looking rifle.

Re: Ruger 6.5" SBH
Is it a three screw or is it a New Model. Can't be both. If I recall the story correctly. The three screw version was created when a Ruger employee thought he was cutting 6.5 inch barrels for 41 magnums, and accidently cut a bunch of 6.5 inch 44 barrels. Ruger being frugal, a new variation was creat...

Re: How does a mouse leave with a trap?
Have had it happen so many times with mice that I had to change my approach. Sometimes I would find the trap some time period later, often times quite a distance from the original placement, always with a dead mouse in it. I was thinking rats at first also, till I started finding the traps. Some mic...

Back when I was kid, like 30 years ago, we used to have good luck trapping them with alfalfa pellets, and by good luck I mean bad luck, as we were trying to catch rabbits.
Have a 12 year old boxer mix who's been sprayed 7 or 8 times. The hydrogen peroxide baking soda mix really works.

There's a company near the town I went to High School in that moves houses as a business, they've moved some really neat pieces and numerous barns, along with any other type of building you can think of. We've gone down numerous times to watch them move one. It's something to see. They don't even ha...

Re: How about a discussion on the 444 Marlin?
Here's mine. 1968 vintage if I recall correctly. Somebody trimmed down the barrel to 20 inches and brazed a couple of magazine tubes together to make a full length tube. They didn't do the best job of fitting it together. Used the original screw through the mag tube cap that just fits into a depress...

Had one show up on my trail cam a few years ago. Only ever got one photo of him (or her). I'd set the camera up to watch a deer scrape that was near an edge of a field. Oddly enough the cat appears to be urinating in the middle of the scrape. Guess he figured the deer should know he was in the neigh...

I've got a hydraulic log splitter I made a couple of years ago that is also powered off the tractor, it really does the trick, but sometimes I still split by hand. Two dogs ago was picked by watching the litter feed on dry dog food. One of the little guys walked right into the middle and stood in the center of the pan to feed while all the others stood outside and reached in. Obviously a smart guy. And we weren't disapointed. Current dog had the best paint job...

Can you take some measurements off that tree he's standing next to and let us know about how tall he is? He looks more husky or wolf like than coyote like to me. Too tall and lanky. But hard to tell from a pic. I've had four coyote incidents in the 10 years I've lived in the country. Twice they've b...

Re: Salvaging an old barn.
Certain remodelers & designers would practically die tryin' to obtain that faded red barn siding.. I think that depends a little on where you're located. Out here in the middle of the country, the barns are at an age where they're getting torn down faster than people can use up the wood. I look...

There's no easy answer to your question. I've seen engines inside buildings freeze solid over a winter (two stroke motorcycle). And seen others sit outside in horrid conditions for years and not get stuck. We bought a '49 international 1.5 ton truck on a farm sale once that had been sitting outside ...

I like the Hornady 300 gr. XTP. Have shot a couple of deer with it. Worked great in both instances on Whitetail Bucks. I used the Ruger Carbine in 44 mag and a handload that pushed the bullet to 1500 fps out of the 18" barrel. One of the bucks I shot with it was at a terrible angle. Bullet hit ...

Mr. Marbles is a pound puppy boxer mutt so he shouldn't have any hunting ability. But from the get go as a puppy he wasn't scared of loud noises. Accurate has some data on their website for XMP 5744 in the 444 marlin. It's in their downloadable reloading guide. I've had good luck making up reduced power loads using this powder in both the 45/70 and 416 Rigby.

I'm not familiar with Barnes 300 gr bullet but if it holds together well you will have trouble keeping one inside a deer, at least. I've shot 4 deer with the 45/70 and a nosler partition 300 gr at 1800 fps or so and have yet to recover a bullet. In fact I've shot two bucks with 44 mag rifles and a 3...
