My old old '94 will do that light-primer-strike thing to me if there is enough resistance to chambering that the lever isn't 100% closed, maybe like only 99.9%. So if those are reloads you are using, make sure you are sizing all the way 'cause you may have a minimum headspace rifle there. If you ar...

Malamute, Yes it is a rebounding hammer. I'll try flushing out the channel and working on the action. This rifle was bought at an estate auction and by all appearances looks new. My daughter was just given a newer 94 30-30 from her grandpa S# in the 5,500,000. I'm certain that it has a light primer strike. I've used 3 different LRP and it has had a FTF with each, but I can take the FTF rounds and shoot them just fine in my H&R, Marlin and Savage 340. I've only tried one ...

Put it back in the chuck and drill a hole the dia of the desired drill bit or just under, press in the the bit and tack it in or use some JB weld and you have a center drill. Thanks for the advice. I was looking around for something using 2400. Seems like a good powder for the 500, given the loads I've seen. but no data yet with that powder. 1,300 fps just seems like a nice round number for most of my hunting and it won't wreck my shoulder. I've also looked at the jacket...

Anyone who wants one, keep your eyes out for 'used' ones. I lucked out and found one someone probably only shot once, from the looks of it - broken front sight, scope-mount with 'slide' marks on it, etc... I'm thinking someone got a bad case of 'scope-eye', dropped the gun, and took it back to the ...

OT-ish Finally got the H&R 500 S&W
This all started a couple years ago when John Taffin wrote an article about it. Shortly after H&R was moving to a new plant (sound familiar?) and stopped production of that rifle for awhile. The ones I could find where way to expensive, so I waited. Two weeks ago my FFL dealer called me for a pi...

Used the Sierra 125 at around 2450 in the 30-30 and it blew a nice golfball sized hole through a doe. I prefer the Speer Hot-cor 130gr for the 30-30 and 30-06. I've shot deer with both. the 06 at around 2700-2800 fps. Plenty of damage and a pass through on another doe. Deer went down in a few yards....
