I'd break all sorts of rules for a rifle like that! What a nice combination of special order features and killer wood! Very nice find.

Re: Clear Epoxy Info
At that depth I would get a real pouring resin from woodcraft. Very easy to use and crystal clear. Normal epoxies like West or System 3 will tend to be bubbly at that depth and if the hardener is oxidized it wont be clear. West does make a coating hardener that is clear with some UV blockers in it b...

My grandfather was very much a singleshot and muzzleloader man. That's how I was started out as well, first shots were with a .32 caplock and my first rifle was a Martini Cadet in 32-20. I started working in a boatyard at 13 and after a few months I had a bit of money and decided I ought to have one...

Six, the Cobra looks to me like a an alloy frame Detective Special. The grips on the one I are smaller than the DS grips apparently for a smaller Colt revolver. Looking for DS grips I see the originals on EBay for $175. The smaller grips on this are for a smaller Colt. Ideas? Cobras are neat little...

The deer I've killed with the 38-40 were done in by the RCBS 40-180-CM bullet cast of 50/50 pure lead and clip on wheel weights. I use the same alloy in most pistol-sized cartridges. Wouldn't hesitate to plug a deer with any sort of reasonable alloy, put one in the spine or through both lungs and th...

Have two, a Shiloh 45-100 and an original 1863 50-70 conversion. Both are a hoot, the Shiloh is gorgeous and spooky accurate while the 50-70 oozes history and is compact (though not light).
