If didn't have a pair of 99Fs I'd be all over this Bill. Great little rifles. The Hawk 190gr bullet is also an excellent option for the 303 Savage.

All of the CB series have normal rifling, "Ballard" in Marlin parlance. Pretty much anything short enough to feed should give decent accuracy. My favorites are the old Gould bullet and the RCBS 400gr gascheck that I reamed the gas check shank out of.

They are neat guns, got the opportunity to shoot one at a club outside of Grand Rapids MI. The one I shot was a lightning with an adjustable rear sight fitted, may have been a S&W off a j frame. Very neat little gun.

I have an 1895cb set up with a shaver tang sight and it loves smacking steel waaay out yonder. I really think marlin nailed the profile of the barrel on these, enough weight out front to hang nice offhand while slim enough not to be a burden carrying the thing in the woods.

For the cartridges we talk about on the board, about 98% of them can be hand loaded with cast bullets at or near the speed the factory makes them at. I agree they are similar in profile. The most noticable thing about the R&S grip is how dramatically the base flares out. I have to believe that Bill Ruger had the Starr or R&S in mind when he designed the loading lever on the Old Army.

I had a 44 mag 336 for a while. Mine wouldn't run with anything much over SAAMI OAL and didnt like SWCs at all. Marlin dropped the chambering when they reintroduced the 1894 and I'd go that route if I wanted a Marlin 44 mag. The 336 is more rifle than needed for the chambering, you're just toting ex...
