I went with the Weaver setup after trying both. I loved putting together the Leupold, but it weighed 4 oz more and was about 1 mm higher. The Weaver was noticeably easier to shoulder and sight, I guess the 1 mm makes a difference. Or the weight, balance, something. The Leupold rings also have ribs o...

Thanks guys. I've been reading about expander plugs. It sounds like I need both! The Lyman is the only one that expands the whole case neck. The neck expander portion of the die is one size for the length of the neck. Push a little deeper and there's a collar that expands the case mouth a little mor...

I'll be doing it every month - our silhouette matches are on the second and third weekends, so I'll probably do it on the fourth weekend. I'll probably do just enough rounds to get through the matches. I don't want to rush through it or stop in the middle so it's something best done on a weekend day...

Well, the only restaurants I'm familiar with have drive-throughs, so I'll have to ask around. There is something new right at the intersection of Little Tujunga and Foothill, I'll see if it's appropriate, it's certainly the closest. Nearby areas are San Fernando, Sunland, and Panorama City. Burbank ...

30-30 neck sizing
I've been setting up my 30-30 dies (Lee) and I made a few dummy rounds to get the OAL set. I noticed a tight fit when setting the bullet into the case, and a few little lead shavings after seating the bullet. The bullets are .310 lasercast. I measured the inside of the case mouth after sizing and it...

Ok, I spoke to Paula at the range office, she is expecting us and will get us all checked in. She's going to charge the guest rate of $7.00 per shooter. That entitles us to shoot at both ranges, the 600 yard and the silhouette range. But it doesn't include the Cowboy Match, just shooting at the silh...

I think the 336 is the best action. However, there is one fault - it is always exposed. When carrying it through brush I get little twigs in there around the bolt and sometimes it affects the cycling. But it's so solid and smooth I'll still take it. I love my Winchesters, but the 336 is a great work...

You have to go one full turn with it because the whole peep rotates and you can't have it just half a turn or it would be sitting sideways. Weaver Mounts vs. Leupold
Well, I've decided on a scope for my 336, and it's time to think about the mounting. The scope is a Weaver V3 (compact) and I was going to go with Weaver base and Weaver low rings. Then I was perusing SWFA and saw the Leupold base (looks a little slimmer) and rings. It looks like the Leupold rings a...
