Nath, try this trick remove everything except the bbl and front sight;the forearm ,mag tube and barrel bands and shoot the rifle over a benchrest. see if you can hold a 3 shot group if you can then its the stuff on the front end thats the problem and tackle each one. danny

If game meat cant be cooled down it will heat sour especially around bone, the bigger the animal the worse the souring, game cannot be cooled down if its whole because the hide acts like insulation and holds heat. It would be easier to go with a 33 win round which is based on the 45-70 case and you can handload the 33 to 2400 fps with a 200 gr bullet in 348 you would only jump 100 fps faster same bullet weight and the 348 is based on the win 50/110 case. danny

You didnt say if your rifle was a orginal win 45/90 or a recent convert I think the twist in the 45/90 is 1-32 whereas the 45/70 is 1-16 the 90 was meant to shoot 300 gr bullets the 525 will shoot but hitting the target will be hard. With that said it would depend on your bbl twist. danny
