Re: reloading bench?
I've clamped my presses to sturdy wooden kitchen chairs and commenced to make ammo. I've got benches, but over the years have settled on an 18" X 18" 3/4 plywood mounted on a single legged stand (heavy bottom for stability). This allows me to reload in the garage in the winter and inside t...

Yeah. I'm going to take both to the range and decide which one I like better. I like both lever and bolt action rifles. However, it may also come down to weight and ease of carry. I got rid of my M71 because I got tired of lugging it around. It was a good serviceable firearm, and I liked the romance...

The Colt SAA is the only handgun that felt "alive" in my hand. It pointed naturally and within only a couple minutes became an extension of my arm, wrist, and hand. It is too bad they've become expensive to the point of pause. I do like the Ruger version of the same gun, but it isn't quite...

Gentlemen, thank you for the good advice and leads. I will look into all of them. I'm not expecting much from the Ackley Improved except longer case life. The regular old 30-30 can still take deer cleanly clear out to 250 yards just as it is. Again, thank you.

I've got an old Ted Williams Model 100 30-30 carbine and want to turn it into a scout rifle. The carbine is in good shape and shoots straight. Walmart has never been on my side, nor has it ever been a gun store. It has, however, sold ammo and other sporting goods that I use and like - at a price well below local gun shops - well below. I think the 450 Marlin is a good cartridge. It is nearly identical to Frank Barnes 458X2" American, which was designed to take all American big game without the unnecessary power of the 458 Winchester Magnum. Marlin chambered their rifles with the cartridge, which only differs in the width of i...
