I've settled on 150 grain bullets because I can then match my reloads to factory loads that are most available at Wal-Mart in my area, which is 150 grains - dogs, deer, javalina, antelope, and other medium sized game that needs killing won't know the difference.

A hundred rounds of new brass will get you at least 5 or 6 hundred rounds of shooting - that's a lot of big game hunting. Bullets are what really need stocking. Hornady only runs batches of 348 bullets as well.

The Model 71 was next in development and public offering sequence to Winchester's Model 70. As a result it was dubbed the Model 71.

Perhaps you didn't miss. Elk don't always show signs of being hit. I missed an elk once, even looked for blood to confirm the miss, then found it deader than Lincoln later in the day while passing back through the area. Perhaps you didn't miss.

Thanks Rangerider7. The places I tread have a lot of rattlers so I will keep my eyes peeled even more. I usually see them before they rattle, but there have been a couple occassions that the rattle is what kept me from stepping on one. And BTW, I'm with the pigs - rattlesnakes make a fine meal.
