Had several come into my lower pasture last year and just tore it up. A couple of them were in the 250 pound range.

If you want them to hang around for awhile, soak a burlap bag in used motor oil and then wrap it around a tree. They love to rub against it.

Since the neatest gun shop is 110 miles round trip and it is a very small shop and none of the big chains (min 240 miles) have any primers so I am forced to use mail order. Called Powder VAlley today, the web site says out of stock but they will take your order and fill it as it comes in. So I guess...

Don McDowell- Thanks for the reply. With open sights and old eyes, 100 yards is about as far as I would push it. I just didn't know if the 357 had enough power to drop a pig or deer.

What do you guys think the efective range is of a 357 using 158 grain cast bullets on white tails and feral hogs out of a Marlin 1894. I have been using mine for paper but want to try it on some live game.

It would probably better if I just passed on bring a gun, besides I can plink all I want off my back porch. I just thought it would be interesting to try shooting at a different place. I will try to get down there and bring the poor cheif some liquid refreshment and just say hi to everyone.

O.S.O.K. I am sure that you are right about a Marlin being more accurate than the Taurus but this is just a fun gun. Besides, even with aging eyes, I have a hard time putting a scope on a lever gun or a Thunderbolt, I just like the lines of the old style weapons. I am not above putting a tang sight ...

Thanks for the reply's. I do not plan on racing the gun just a fun gun to maybe take a few beavers with or a feal hog but mostly plinking. I must say that the thought of a SAA had crossed my mind, just a little :D .

My concern is that after I use my bullet seating die , the dia. of the bullet tip is even smaller. I realize that the tip is lead, but I don't know what type of force is required to set off a primer. I guess I am just afraid of pulling the trigger and have ten rounds go off.

They are smart. They use to come out at dusk and I would be waiting for them, they would usually see me before I could get a shot off. The next night it would be an hour later, this went on until I was out there at 2 in the morning before they would show up. I cleared some brush near where they like...

My understanding is that the beavers are somewhat protected as well as the gators around here. I was talking to a judge in town and un-officially he told me to remember the "3 S" rule, shoot it, shovel it and shut up :D .

I hope you enjoy your beavers as much as I have. You would not believe the number of nights I have sat by my lake and pond just waiting for them to show up with my 12 ga. and 00 shot :) . This year I stopped counting the number of trees they took down after 50. Now some of the families have moved on...

RKrodle- I have not hunted in the Nat. Forest. We drive through it on the way to Kenard (one of the places we hunt) and there are trucks parked on both sides of the roads all the way. With old eyes and old calibers, this is what I came up with.

OAL 1.001-1.002

base to cl of first cannelure .225

I agree the the powder manufacture probably knows best, it just seems strange that the min load from Win. is 1.4 grains higher than the max load from Speer.
