Gihon- I just came in from shooting my 38-55 ( it's nice to be able to shoot off the back porch :D ). My Williams FP sight is almost as low as it will go and I am about 1" high at 50 yards. Maybe your problem will go away with a new rear sight. Mine has the Lyman front sight that came with the ...

Since the high is 17.3 and the low is 13.2, I subtracted the 2 and came up with 4.1 and then divided by 2 = 2.05 then added that to the lowest for 15.25 grains. I figure that is not much above the lowest max and right in line with Sierra data. If I don't hear form anyone I will load a few and see ho...

357 load question

I am going to try loading some Rem. 158 grain JSP with Win. 296 powder. They will be used in a Ruger GP 100 and my Marlin 1894. My problem is since I am using 296 and from what I understand there is not much room to play with charge weights I need to know the min/max loads. I have looked at the foll...

Thats to bad, I guess everyone wants the 45-70. Not that the 45-70 is bad ( I have several) but the 38-55 is a neat round to shoot.

I think the only way you can now get a 38-55 is with H&R's barrel program and since Remington bought them and are moving the plant you might want to call and see whats up.

You may want to consider getting rid of the factory sight and getting a Williams FP sight. On my 38-55 I was trying to sight it in for 50 yards, to adjust the sight that comes with the gun you loosen a screw and slide the sight up or down. This is OK but in my case the adjusting screw ended up being...

After 6 rounds I had lead in both guns. I was loading OT 240 grain bullets over 22.5 grains of 5744 (average speed was 1452 FPS). I incres...

If you are going to get another barrel, you better call H&R/NEF first. Since Remington bought Marlin which owns H&R/NEF, they (Remington) are closing the plant and moving it. I can't remember where right now, senior moments :) .

I also use the Lee 3 die set and Factory Crimp die and have had no problems. I am using Oregon Trails Laser Cast bullets (.380 dia. ) since my H&R meassures about .379. Tried some 30-30 fire formed brass but they seem to be about .07" shorter than the Win. brass, so I am sticking with the W...

One with my 45-70 factory crimp die and the other with their case trimmer. Both poblems were fixed within a week. For the money you can't beat i...

One of our customers put 6 rounds from a 243 into a ferral hog at 100 yards and it just walked off. I would go with the thought bigger is better, give me a 44 mag or a 45-70.

BTW your son did a great job.

Hi- This is my first question on this forum and I hope I am not boring you folks. For years I have loved the 45-70, until my son bought me an H&R target rifle in 38-55. I absolutely love this round. My question is does anyone make a new lever gun in 38-55 that I won't have to take a second out o...

I am about ten miles north of Crockett so I am guessing about 2+ hours.

I had been happy with 5744 in my 38-55, but my friend had some problems using 2400 in his 38-55. If he just loaded a round and fired it he would get one velocity, but if he held the rifle up in the air and then shot, he would get a big difference in velocity.
