YIKES!! 300 and 350 grain .458 jacketed bullets are nearly $1.00 each at most available sources. I'm gonna have to use my stock very carefully. :shock:

I couldn't see anything of the lead ban there. I've lived here in CA for 61 yrs and can't see any reason to leave. The more leftys that leave the state the better off we northerners will be.

A short while back Joe Salter had two special order .32-40s, one with half oct bbl and one round barrel. Both had nickel steel barrels and I let 'em get away while hemming and hawing. :oops:

Plenty of them up this way, but I don't pay much attention to them. '86s draw my eye more than any other model. Those are rapidly leaving the realm of my wallet, so I guess I'm gonna have to start collecting post-64 94s. NOT! :)

One reason for their relatively moderate value is due to the sheer number of surviving examples. There are probably a couple of hundred thousand '73s still out there.

Roger that, 45Spades. Open heart surgery is pretty much a slam dunk these days. My dad had a 5 way bypass in 1988 and soldiered on for 17 years after that. We will pray for your father's successful surgery and fast recovery.

The tangs are interchangeable, Red. The PG tang differs only in that it is thicker to accommodate the curve of the lever. Red,

I have everything but the lever. Winchester will not sell a PG lever to anyone but a "certified" gunsmith, but they will sell the straight one to anybody. Go figure. I have had zero luck in finding a loose PG lever.

I have the exploded drawing of the Browning 1886 and it does have all those silly parts to the firing pin mechanism. So far, I haven't been able to disassemble the Winchester/Miroku firing pin assembly. I probably will not until I get my hands on a pistol grip lever and change the lower tang and but...

Cimarron Red, that is the only piece I have not been able to remove from my gun. For some reason, the roll pin that holds the firing pin assembly will not drift from the bolt.

I just might replace the entire bolt with an original one from a 1920s '86, IF it will fit without too much hassle.

I lack all the required sizing pins to adapt from .348 to 45. After ruining 10 cases I'll not try it again. Besides, I have enough Winchesters to shoot to keep me busy, so waiting for the proper brass won't hurt me.

My poor little .45-75 is languishing for lack of brass. I will not sacrifice any .348 brass because the success rate is way too low to continue that process.

The Browning coil mainsprings are very reliable and have excellent tension. Perhaps someone weakened the spring. I bought a couple extras to use in my Miroku Winchester 1886s.

I ALWAYS ask for huntin' and fishin' stuff. Several years ago I scored an 1886 .33 Winchester for the princely sum of $85. A couple months ago I found a fella with a 12GA Parker Trojan that he wants $600 for. I passed but he still has it. Maybe I'll offer him a little less next time we talk.

Pike have become established by illegal planting in a local Sierra lake, much to the detriment of all native fish. The lake will be poisoned in Oct to kill all fish and hopefully eradicate the Northerns. Hopefully, it will work this time.
