Doc,
My condolences on the loss of your friend.
It sounds as if he had lived a good and full life, but was lost to his family much too soon.

Re: Rebarreling a rossi 92 to 38 special.
My m92 .357 Mag rifle is a conversion and was not made to shoot 38 Special. The only factory 38 that would stabilize was the hot 110 and 125 loads . Anything heavier was too slow to stabilize and some even hit the target sideways. This was due to the twist in the Douglas custom 20 inch barrel. The D...

Pitchy,
Liking your Marlin Cowboy rifle.
I almost bought one before I discovered it did not come in 45-90.
So I bought my 1886 45-90 TD with 26 inch barrel. It is heavier, but that helps dampen the recoil.

Axis best or not? IMHO, that is in the eye (or taste buds) of the beholder (or diner). To my family, Axis is very good(as good as blackbuck and better than fallow deer), but we prefer Elk and Red deer. Pronghorn is also near the top of the list and makes great chili. Preparation of wild game for the...

T, You may be right- I just posted what JS said he saw as I was not with him. It was a nice big stag that would make a good trophy mount. How could such a big heavy guy complain/whine like that? Well, he did admit that he is not a hunter, which likely means that he does not regularly shoot clays with a 12 gauge. Also, he was not shooting a heavy rifle, there fore allowing more recoil energy to reach him. This 9.5 pound Miroku/Winchest...

Doc,
Please report on the accuracy you get as I am curious as to what my 1895 .405 gets.
Since I do not target shoot and everything I shoot at dies, I can only assume that he accuracy is average for a Miroku/Winchester 1895 .405 (whatever that is) and just go on killing game with mine.

Yes, some farmers and ranchers seem to value their grass more than the Pronghorn. Some also make money from selling their tags to hunters and outfitters.
We had our first pronghorn chili last night is several years. I get some more for supper tonight.

Antelope chili tonight!
The mild meat really takes to the seasoning and makes great chili. I use Wick Fowlers mix, but my daughter volunteered to do the cooking honors, so she will make her own seasoning.

JimT,
For me, the Federal large rifle Match Magnum primers made a significant difference in my .405 WCF when shooting compressed charges. The 400 grain load I took buff hunting was 35 fps faster with the only change being to switch from xxx mag primer to Fed215M. It burned very clean too.
