My 1955 336 SC came here from Georgia, where it obviously enjoyed a full and interesting life. It had some forend wiggle, a fault I can't abide. 50+ years of recoil had visibly bent--but did not break--the rear band screw. Jack First had good quality replacements at the time. You won't see brittle, ...

Re: I was talking with some friends about the S&W Model 10
I think the Model 10 is the sweet spot for the .38 Special cartridge. Small enough for comfortable carry and big enough to shoot well. The triggers on the older guns are particularly easy to work with. Agreed. The 4 inch Model 10 is perfect package for the 38 Special. I happen to like the S&W w...

We all have preferences and I have come to accept mine; I simply can't abide a stainless gun. The only one I own is an old S&W 637 and I Gun-coated the frame black and the barrel & cylinder with Caswell's 360. The lock on that one was deactivated shortly after I bought it. https://www.thesix...

High Desert Hunter, I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. I've replaced a few busted/bent rear band screws and they can be a PITA to get out. And yes some new production ones are brittle. My basic 45 ACP load uses the 230 grain Jeff Cooper bullet, from Bear Creek, over 5.4 grains of 231 for around 840 fps and excellent accuracy from any good 45, round or flat. One dose leaves garden marauders literally DRT and I wouldn't worry about using it on anything bigger. https://static.wixstat...

I've owned three R92s over the years, two 45 Colts and a 16" 357 made right after Taurus bought them out. The only one that didn't require deburring/corrective tinkering was the 16" 45 Colt, which came with a StevesGunz CD and was already slicked up. I basically consider them an 80% kit wi...

I've had a couple of early Uberti Cattlemen, 357 and a 44. Both got lots of Magnum loads, some mild loads and were dry fired some. Both peened the firing pin holes to the extent they required dressing.
Uberti ought to have corrected that problem long ago. My next spaghetti sixgun will be a Pietta.

I guess the question with any survival gun is, what is it that you're hoping to survive? Unless you live where the big bears and moose room, the 357 in a rifle...
