The Old Man - A Wilderness Encounter
We came upon the camp quite unawares. We did not know anyone was camped back in these hills and were not expecting to meet anyone. It was a long ways from anywhere. We had been backpacking, heading into the backcountry for several days and it was just about time for us to stop for the evening when w...

Re: 1851 Navy Range Day
Everyone has their own way of doing many things. And it doesn't mean other ways don't work or aren't OK. I like hearing about other ways of doing things, even if I don't plan on trying it. Knowledge stored up CAN be used if needed. I hate some places where, if you post some thing that is different, ...

Very nice Jim! So, tell us more about the homemade FFg powder! :D It's black. Large granules. Goes "BANG" and smokes. That's all I know. I did not make it. Some friends came to visit and one of them makes his own powder. He gave me a pound of it. I loaded some in the .38 S&W cases for...

1851 Navy Range Day
I love shooting my 1862 Colt Police .36 but man! This 1851 Navy is running a close race! Took it to the Range today to try out Triple 7 and some home-made 2Fg black powder. I set up at 20 yards and managed to fire about 30 shots an hour. The Triple 7 gave the best results. No surprise as it has give...

I am glad you came through it OK and were able to be help. The problem with those kinds of situations is you cannot tell which is the good guy and which is the bad guy. They both may be bad guys. It could be the good guy took off just to get clear of the scene or because he was scared or wounded.

My dad taught me to handload, beginning when I was about 10 years old. I have been handloading for a long time. When people ask me about the cost I try to explain that while they will not save any money by handloading, they will shoot a whole lot more for the money they spend. And as you said, there...

Re: would you pick a 357 pistol or a 45 colt for a gun fight
Thinking about this subject and remembering times when an emergency happened that required I grab a gun, I don't believe I ever made a conscious choice as to caliber. I needed a gun immediately and took what was at hand. Sometimes it was a shotgun. Sometimes it was a rifle. Sometimes it was a handgu...

Pull a factory Remington or Winchester .45 Colt and look at the dinky powder charge the factories use. They don't seem concerned and been doing it for longer than most of us have been alive.

Never encountered that problem. Your solution may work. Before you do that make sure it's not the cross pin latch that's causing the issue. Loosen the screw and take it out (don't drop the spring ) and see if that changes anything.
