Where’s that Remington now Jim? … If you find it can have it?….looks to have a fair amount of condition. I know where a brand new unfired one is. ….. In the late 1940's my Dad bought a shipment of Remingtons from James Serven. None were "collectible" of that day. He paid about an average ...

Good on ya, Jim. My first single action was a brass-framed Navy imported by Hawes. Dad let me buy it from a little gun shop in Scotia, California -- Humboldt County -- about 1970 after I showed him all the stuff I had to do to load and shoot the thing. I believe he figured it would be hard for me t...

The only gun I own that has that grip is a Ruger Bearcat Shopkeeper. It's a pocket gun. And small. I prefer the Colt SAA and the old Ruger XR3 grip. But it works on the little bitty Bearcat.

Dang, Jim, your dad was a very resourceful fella. Yessir he was. He had a knack of making complicated things simple. Living through the Depression he knew how to make things work. He told me when I was young that he was taught, "Use it up. Wear it out. Make it do or do without." I have ne...

No derail Bill. Much of the old testament should be read as an allegory. The rabbi's understand that but our western culture does not easily embrace allegory. The Puritan influence literalizes things often way too much. This could be seen as a lesson on how certain things not only kill, but the harm...

I ran across the Borchardt Rifle Co. website a few months ago and saw they make after-market parts for Ruger single actions. What interested me was their all-steel ejector rod housings. They offer them for both Old Model and New Model Rugers. Their ad said to call to order so I called them and order...

I like accurate handguns but I have not always checked bore and chamber throat diameters. From a bench a few of the pistols were so-so in the accuracy department. But shooting offhand at game they were plenty accurate. I always tried to get close. And usually the game was moving, even if slowly at t...

That old 1911 teaches a harsh lesson about thumbs -- as does a Ruger .22 auto. I have watched quite a few people fold their left thumb over top of the right, behind the slide on various semi-autos, and learn a valuable lesson. That may also depend on bullet weight. Since tend to mostly shoot 200 grain or less bullets outta my .45 Colts, I've never had a bullet stay in the case with popped with just a primer. Re: Testing Bullet Pull
Bullet pull (lot's of it) really helps ignition. Pretty sure though that the primer almost always pops the bullet outa the brass before the powder ignites. Read that many times, and the times when I've (or someone else) fired a round without powder the bullet rarely stays in the case. Exceptions, a...

I knew it made a difference. And I learned many years ago, especially for the heavy loads, not to use the neck expanding dies. Keeping the brass small and just belling the mouth of the case stopped the heavy .45 Colt loads from pulling and tying up the gun. I used that on the .45 Colt, the 454 and t...

I was talking with Mic McPherson about the old H&R and how anemic most loads were, especially with .38 and 9mm bullets of .358" and .356" diameter. Mic told me that he believed it was because they fit so loosely in the cartridge that the primer was driving the bullets out of the cartri...

What a transformation! :) Well done! Do you know when the gun was originally made? I doubt you'd shoot it enough that the smokeless loads would be a problem, but a lot of those pocket top-breaks were never rated for smokeless powder, as I am sure you know. Happy Shooting!
