In a custom gun with 16.5" barrel I would go for .45-70. But if I was going for a custom gun I would go for the big .50 and get a longer barrel. The reason I wouldn't go for .30-30 or other is that a stock Winchester 94 or Marlin 336 in .30-30, or a Marlin 94 in .45 colt, is very hard to improv...

I think bicycles are great for exercise, and also for fun. I don't think they are particularly dangerous, but TOYOTAS are a different story. Especially the one that tried to wipe me out while I was on my bike. Well "all the kings horses and all the kings men" managed to put my face back on.

personally I go with 5

I think 10 is better for some reasons. I think with 10 you'll pretty much get the same results you would get with 5, except it will give you a better chance to see if there are occasional fliers. I think you could have 2 different combinations to test, and they would give similar average group sizes...

Sometimes a little clear spray on the inside of the wheel will seal up defects.

If your wheels are chrome plated, the chrome can flake off and leave gaps where air can leak out.

I don't know about that particular FMJ ammo, but the general rule is that FMJ ammo is not as accurate as JSP or JHP ammo. When you get an opportunity you should try it with some good ammo.

I vote for trying to find a good used gun. Pre-64's were always revered and relatively expensive compared to more modern production. Wasn't it Paco Kelly that really liked BlueDot for use in the .41 mag?

I remember my Sierra loading manual many years ago gave the highest velocity for .357 mag w/ 158 grain bullets to BlueDot. I always wanted to try some just for that but somehow never did, I ended up using 2400 or 296 instead.
