Re: 50-110 vs 50 Alaskan
I am looking at getting a conversion done by DRC or Reg Nonneman and I am not sure which cartridge to go with. the 50-110 has history but the 50 Alaskan is more readily available. I can't find(modern) 50-110 ballistics anywhere. Do any of you have a conversion? I seem to remember JT doing an articl...

Please make sure ALL gasket sufaces are FLAT! AMF had shoddy workmanship (if your parts are made in that era) make sure rocker boxes are flat and head surface on top is flat. They used to make aluminum pushrod tubes that had nuts to "screw them apart" with rubber seals . I used them and my...

Ok guys thanks for the input. I will build the rifle and seek guidance from a stock supplier. I wanted a curley maple wood, Stained a reddish "Colonial Red" similar to that Birchwood-Casey color. coupled with the octagonal barrel it should look sweet. I wish I could do a browned finish wit...

Leverdude , that was what I was told, but I saw a Sharps "Old West Maple" and got to wondering if it would hold up on a 50-110 (smokeless loads) that I was going to build from a brand-new 1886 Winchester-Browning.

I am going with a shotgun butt, and full magazine tube. When it is done I will post pics as soon as the big butt grin wears off lol One quick question: is it inadvisable to have curley maple stocks on a powerful gun such as this? Reason being I like the look of the 1874 Sharps "Old West Maple&q...

Re: winchester 1886 45-70 conversion to 50 cal. questions
I am a noob here but I have taken a different path. I am going to purchase a brand new 1886 reissue (so to speak) and a barrel from Green Mountain chambered in 50-110 Express, pack it up to a gunsmith and have the conversion done. Total cost with new rifle, barrel and conversion fee= $ 2,000.00. A sm...
