Thanks, OS and Blaine, I tried hard to preserve the patina, and scarring on the stocks while matching the color and softening the grain.

Finally done with the butt stocks. Sadly, all the fussing with it, it doesn't fit as nicely as it used to... Bummed, but it still came out good. Before, I had a bad color match http://www.viciousbunny.net/images/Mauser7mm/01-OriginalWood.JPG Better after, except the fit of the bit stock. http://www....

Re: Buying a used motorcycle... What should I know?
Where do you live? I have an old Honda V30 Magna 500 that is a nice little bike and a great first bike. For used bikes: 1) Check the tire tread for cracks 2) Check the change for rust 3) When you go to buy it, feel the engine before you start it. If it's warm, the guy started it before you got there...

On the cusp of a 1911....
I was sneaking away from work the other day and I stopped in at one of my favorite gun shops that caters to used, antique and curio guns, and I saw a 1911 in the case. It was a match built gun, an Essex Firearms frame under a Colt slide, match bushing, wide safety and slide release, etc. etc. It is ...

The polish is done. They sent me the wrong die from what I ordered. I order a 1" hex and they sent a 1 7/8. But I worked through it. As you will read in other places, the Ryobi polishing pads bleed threads everywhere while using. After a bit of experimentation, I found that the Stainless polish...

RB 7mm Buttstock - Still going...
I am still working on this darn buttstock set. My original intention had been to just finish it enough to look used, but the Tung Oil was just too sparkly in the grain and it looked awful. The gel stain had too much texture to leave as just stained, and if I rubbed it with wool, it didn't look good ...

There is another consideration, as well. I dont know the physics term for it, but when two different metals are pressed against each other at high pressures, the friction can lock them in place temporarily. I believe this is the principle at work when firing certain automatics. The brass cartridge i...

Hopkins & Allen Firing Pin repair
Recently, I discovered that the firing pin in my H&A appeared to be a hand made one, or something that was modified to fit in my gun. Also, there was no spring to retract the pin and occasionally, I'd rack it pretty hard when dropping the breach. So, I decided to order a new one from Numrich and...

Re: looking for 357 load recommendations for my rossi m92
You might want to try some 180 gr bullets in your Rossi before you buy a mold. The Rossi has a 30" twist and if 180's are accurate at all it will be at max loadings(1500-1700 fps). At the velocity you want to shoot at (1100-1300) I'd be surprised if there is any accuracy past 50 yds. Marlin an...

Here is a negative review of the Chaperral on The High Road.

Its not a rant, either. Apparently, the buyer noted a pretty important defect that made the gun unusable and Chaperral didn't understand.
Take it with a grain of salt, I guess.

Powder - What are your thoughts True Blue, Bullseye, Titegrp
I need to select a new powder to invest in for my 38 S&W. The Lyman handbook lists TrueBlue as the best powder. However, the powder is limited in it's use in 38 Spl and 357, according to the book. However Bullseye is good for all three. Tightgroup for 38 and 38 Spl. So, what are your thoughts on...

Well, the prevailing wisdom is correct. Attempting to anneal didn't produce any meaning full effect. All samples dropped to about 12 BHN from 14.8. That is not enough to make it worth the effort. And if J35 is correct, they will eventually harden up again. I'll load a few up and try them out, the 15...

Re: looking for 357 load recommendations for my rossi m92
Unless you are doing a short range CAS shoot, you probably won't find a best load for both guns. When I had an Uberti SAA in 357, and a Rossi 92 in 357, the twist rates were different. 1:18 for the Uberti, 1:30*correctedpost* for the Rossi. For a CAS shoot, I loaded a 140 grain Hornady cowboy with 5...
