Re: Cool vid of quick shooting!
Been there done that with that carry method (I believe it is called African carry) and just about every other method I know about or could come up with. I'm just not as fast with that method and as I stated above I was trying to show anti's how fast a person can mount and shoot a long gun... I used ...

Re: Cool vid of quick shooting!
In my case there isn't anyone behind me and this method shouldn't be used if there ever was. But thanks for pointing it out for others this is a safety issue and I am totally guilty of breaking the 180 line. The reason for the vid clips was that on another forum I was in a discussion where I was say...

Re: Product Review - XS sight set for Marlins
I have shot a lot of SASS competitions as well and used a Marlin 1894CB in 45 Colt so understand you comments on that style of shooting. Where I learnt to shoot lever rifles was as a teenager and thru my early twenty's I would go out with my Browning BL22 22lr and shoot thousands of gophers helping ...

Re: Product Review - XS sight set for Marlins
Wish I could say it was 50 yards but it wasn't it was only 25 yards... H322 is now the only powder that I use in my 45-70's, I have used almost every powder out there that can be used and have found H322 the best for all weights of bullets. The load I was using in the video clip was 54grs H322, Win ...

Re: Product Review - XS sight set for Marlins
I have a set of XS Sights Ghost Ring Backup Sights on my Marlin 1895GS 45-70 I am amazed how fast and accurately I can shoot with these sights installed. Here is a 1:43 sec video clip on YouTube of me shooting the above rifle with the XS Sights installed and with 350gr Hornady's @ around 1900fps to ...

Re: Shot a Mountain Grizzly
Ok I'll give it a try... There is really 2 main types of prospecting... Placer which is anything that has been moved by water or glacier movement or hard rock which hasn't been moved by water the material could have moved like broken off of a cliff but as long as water hasn't moved it it is still co...

Re: Shot a Mountain Grizzly
Yes from what I understand with some paper work it is legal for you to bring your own rifle. I don't know if summer is all that good of a time frame due to nothing being open for hunting but then again you can't legally hunt with me you would need a guide/outfitter for that but you can fish with jus...

Re: Shot a Mountain Grizzly
I just recieved an awesome update of the area where I shot the bear... I had told the outfitter roughly were I had shot the bear and that we think that there is another big grizzly in the area due to the carcass being carried off. He hiked in to check out the spot the other day and as he approached ...

Re: Shot a Mountain Grizzly
Here is a pic of the black/gray laminate stocks that I purchased from GunStockInc after many hours of sanding and fitting the fore end that I thought I had paid extra for because I do not have much in the line of wood working tools. I should have just bought the standard Win 94 stocks and saved myse...

Re: Shot a Mountain Grizzly
You are correct it is either in a cross draw shoulder holster or a cross draw belt holster. Technically/legally I can only carry the handgun while prospecting and when I went in after the bear I was most definately not prospecting so I left it in the truck... ;) That is why I do not have it on in th...

Re: Shot a Mountain Grizzly
Thanks for the comments Mr Tutt and everyone else I totally appreciate them. To say that this was an adventure of a lifetime is an understatement but the best part is that I got to share this event with my son. I started teaching him how to shoot when he was about 5 years old and as he grew up he be...

Re: Shot a Mountain Grizzly
The skull has only been roughly green scored at between 23 1/2" which makes the British Columbia book to just over 24" which is required for the Boone & Crockett book.
So it may not make the Boone & Crockett book but will definately make the Boone & Crockett Awards.

I bought one box and loaded them up for my T/C Contender Carbine in 45-70. I haven't shot anything other than paper with them yet though. I am getting very good accuracy with them. A bear hunting guide I know swears by these bullets and uses them himself says they are the best 45-70 bullet he has ev...
