Re: cast for hunting the big stuff

I agree they are tough I have a good idea of anatomy having been around cattle most of my life (family connections) and have butchered my fair share. Also these won't be my first ferals having put bulls down with implements ranging from the back of an axe (don't ask) , 308w to 375 h&h (borrowed a...

Re: Adjunct To "How Far, Open Sights" Thread

Yes it does if it is resting on a hard surface the rifle will recoil away from the surface and, you can't control muzzle jump with your non trigger hand. This is why benchrests use sand bags and the better ones have gripper tops.

Re: cast for hunting the big stuff

Water buffalo are tough. And, what's a scrub bull? My health insurance is ok. Scrub bull is Aussie slang for feral domestic cattle. They avoid being mustersd on our larger cattle properties mostly by being very aggressive so they have little respect for humans as many of them have fought with human...

Re: cast for hunting the big stuff

Sorry the plan is to use a 35 whelen. The group i'm going with have turned to bowhunters and let their rifles go. After a couple of close calls I got an invite if I take the cranky ones

cast for hunting the big stuff

In september next year I have been invited to hunt on Cape York mostly for pigs but one of the chores is to hunt scrub bulls and water buffalo that refuse to be mustered. :D So my question is I want to use a hard cast bullet and Iam thinking of a 0.360" 300grain mould from cast bullet engineeri...

Re: 35 whelen?

Stuffy have you given any thought to buying a left handed Savage bolt gun and rebarreling it. I have only rebarreled 1 Savage, but it was very easy and cheap. Yes I have . As savages are one of the two guns my local gunshops always have in lefty I tried to scource a barrel but neither of the local ...

Re: 35 whelen?

Thanks for the replies sort of what I thought. I've had a hankering for a whelen for years but can't get a lefty bolt to fit the bubget. I used a steel framed blr for a couple of years but we didn't really get on. Now don't get me wrong I've had or used lvers in22lr,22wmr,32/20, 357mag,44mag,12gauge...

35 whelen?

I'm wanting to buy a new rifle in 35 whelen. Being a left hander I have pretty well settled on a remington 7600 (Available again 2009). My question is, is it safe to rechamber one of these to 35 brown-whelen? The main reason to rechamber is to get a sharper shoulder (less cartrige trimming) Thanks i...
