Try to get some of Mel Tappans writings and books, he was the guru of the survivalist movement in the 70's and early eighties. Only one thing I can add is when you remove the bolt, make certain the ejector which located on the left side of the action wall, doesn't fall out unnoticed and seen. They come out easily and go back in prior to reinsertion of the bolt just as easy. Good luck.

I have read that France bought bunches of the 351's for use in the trenches in WWI. They were very impressed with it. Don't remember the source, numbers involved or what type of ammo they used. Just a bit of trivia.

I have found the rusting is a problem. I also found that oiling the rifle after use with pyrodex it is best to use ATF. Never had a rusting problem since. But be certain to clean it as described first. ATF appears to stay and is one of the best gun oils for this use. ATB

Phosphoric acid (sp) available at paint stores will remove old rust and anything else that gets in its way. Naval Jelly is very good for removing rust. I have found the ClipDraw device the best way to carry my Glock-17 and Glock-21SF. I find the ClipDraw is great for carrying the 1911's as well. Low price as well.
