M4gery, SAR2 (AK74 "clone" in 5.45) or Para-FAL. For "whites of the eyes" time, the .357 Marlin. FWIW the Soviet specs on AK accuracy called for a roughly 6" group at 100m. The average rifleman can acheive better with practice at 200-300m. And 6" at 100m is still MoCM ...

He also used a 256 Manlicher - AKA 6.5x54 which launched its 160 grain bullets at 2200 fps or so. But they were excellent penetrators - full metal jacket as mentoined. Chuck, I attended HS in Iowa too - but at Davenport West and my graduating class was just shy of 1000. And although that wasn't 50 years ago, things have still changed a lot since then - 28 years ago...

Nice collection there! Looks like you took a shine to the Black Shadows :)

And although I think the AR is a very good rifle in the field (just have to have a field cleaning kit) I must agree that when it gets down and dirty, the AK is more reliable.

Not to take away from the 94 but my Stevens 200 in .270 weighs 6.5 pounds before the scope. It's just a bit more than a standard 94 with it's Nikon 3x9 in place.
