Re: OT - Practical jokes

I've always wanted to connect someone's car horn to their turn signals... That would accomplish little around here, since the use of turn signals is illegal in the State of Ohio. My first ship was homeported at Little Creek, Virginia, and there was a McDonald's right outside of gate 1, maybe half a...

Re: OT: Our wonderful governor.....

...I must point out that one cannot defend himself with alcohol, nor keep his government in check. And I don't believe alcohol is specifically mentioned as a protected right in the Constitution. Very true. Which is why I said you should fight it. Absolutely you should fight it. I'm just providing a...

Re: OT- The oath of enlistment

With all due respect to anyone here who is/was an officer in some military service, it is my experience that many officers are dismissive of concerns expressed by even very senior (and experienced) NCOs. Why? Because of the class thing. This is my "major" concern about McCain. He's a typi...

Re: OT- The oath of enlistment

The most important thing to remember, is all of this: "that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey orders from the President, and from the officers appointed over me, in accordance with the laws and regulations of the United States. So help me God." is a s...

Re: OT: Our wonderful governor.....

Of course I oppose it and fight it... but consider that a $450/yr license isn't nearly as expensive or intrusive as a Liquor/Food license... True, the BATFE can kick in your door and shoot you up, but the Revenuers & Health Inspectors are even more prevelent... and don't forget the "A"...

Re: POLITICS - A little Rebellion now and then...

It is worth pointing out that the much-celebrated Emancipation Proclamation didn't liberate anybody. It was intended as a political statement, basically saying "As far as we're concerned the South is still under our authority." Read the text and you will see that it only applied in areas w...

Re: OT- The oath of enlistment

Could it be because the Natl Guard is a state organization that takes it's orders from the Governor of your state through the Adjutant General. It isn't Federal until absolutely necessary. Just a thought. For my initial enlistment into the Guard, the words " the Governor of Ohio" were ins...

OT- The oath of enlistment

I just re-enlisted, reluctantly, into the Army National Guard. I have previously enlisted or re-enlisted 3 times into the Navy, and once into the Guard. All four times I was asked to recite the same oath as below. I memorized it because at the time it seemed important. "I, Full Name, do solemnl...

Dangerous subversive content in these comic strips. It is my duty to report it to the Authority.

Re: ya wanna see lots of levers in action in a movie!

MOST actors are pretty crappy as actors. It has always been my belief that many folks who'd be best/among the best at a given job never do or choose to do that given job. Thus, only the folks that WANT or HAVE to do any given job do it and it is a given that, for some jobs the majority won't be tal...

Re: OT - Hey, Waitaminute...

"Last Man Standing" and "A Fistful of Dollars" are both remakes of (homages to?) a picture called "Yojimbo" by an almost legendary japanese director whose name escapes me at the moment. Many of his samurai movie plots were converted to gritty westerns in the mid- and la...

Re: OT- Is 38 special fading away?

Unique is the powder I have on order for this project, and those Walmart value packs are where I got most of my brass. By the way, I'm shooting a pair of Cimarron Lightning replicas. They're a lot of fun. Sorry, I'm camera deficient at the moment.

Re: OT- Is 38 special fading away?

Rjohns94,

What is your load? I'm going to put together some CAS-type loads with a couple different powders and maybe some FFFg. I'll use 158gr SWC, and maybe something like 140gr for the black powder.

OT- Is 38 special fading away?

I went to the local gunshop yesterday looking for some 38 plinking ammo, and you would think I asked them for pin-fire cartridges or something. They rooted around on the shelf, and found one box each of Winchester and Remington 110gr HP. I asked whether they had any SWC and they literally laughed at...

Actually I do reload, and the last 300-400 rounds were Oregon Trail RNFP bullets, which I understood to be pretty hard. I ordered the .452 and not the .454 bullets. Now that I think about it, it seems that the leading increased exponentially when I switched to these. I did try a half-dozen jacketed ...

Yeah, cylindersmith, I remember that from the old forum. Somebody used to have something about that as their signature. Something like "45 throats for Pete's sake."

Thanks for the feedback everybody.

OT- Serious leading in my Vaquero

So I have this Vaquero, and I've been shooting mostly factory CAS loads--Winchester, Ultramax, and PMC. After about 1400 rounds, with periodic normal cleaning, there was major leading in the barrel as well as the forcing cone. I tried Shooter's Choice lead remover, and was not impressed with the res...
