Those series S&W's are IMO real sleepers, I had a 1086 it was a smooth trigger, and broke like glass. Never failed me, don't know if they still carry them but Newport News PD here in Va. had the 1086's till S&W stopped them, and gladly traded them out for the 45 version , great buy!!

That ole boy has rode a range or two, the boots and that classic mustache ,only thing looks wrong to me is the placement of the knife, may have been just done like that for the photo.

I would say it appears he got center punched just about even with the right shoulder, most of them ole boys would rather use the winchester, reminds me of photos the old man had for awhile of western Kansas.

Interesting, thats some thing I haven't thought about, have a HANNED flat pointer for use on FMJ military rounds , and have shot darn near 1k modified 6.5 sweede stuff through the 96, will have to pay more attention to the rounds when finished

I know the ole boy I worked with one summer , hated them with a red passion, but never shot any while I was there , but he spoke often about birthing time and the damage they did on new born sheep.

Interesting, did some thing like that back in the 60's, got the idea from Keith and tried it after writing him. Used a 45 colt THE OLD 2400 powder and the gas checks both reversed to form the cup so to speak and a light roll crimp, worked well on no neckers!

Range your right , i drift thru the auction sites for firearms and there are just a couple of dealers in old quality leather{always looking for left hand} and the prices have really amazed me, most notable are the hghly hand carved rigs of past times

Very nice Range, looks the same as the one I had made back in the 60's to carry my 3 1/2 27. It to came a little lose, and ended up doing the old soak it wet and dry her out thing, doing some lite boning as it went along, it still holds just about as well as new. I wore leather gear for over 30 years while policing, and it was never as classy as the old hand tooled border rigs.
