Re: Best 22LR revolver
For a .22 revolver, you'd be hard pressed to do better than a Smith & Wesson K-frame with a four or six inch barrel or, if you want something lighter, a J-frame with a four inch barrel. Lots of them available out there used, too. There's also the Ruger SP101 which is not quite as nice as the S&a...

I recently purchased a Marlin Model 1894 .32-20 and I'd like to load some of the old "rifle" level cartridges using the Speer 115 grain Gold Dot hollow point bullets. Can anyone suggest a source for that data? I've not had a lot of luck with reloading manuals, which seem to be focused on h...

Try a Savage Model 99 in .300 Savage. It will do the job. Buy the 99R or 99RS, which will be a bit heavier, reducing felt recoil.

Safety Replacement for Marlin Model 1894
I'm picking up a Marlin Model 1894 .32-20 this afternoon from my local purveyor of temptations. It has the cross-bolt safety, which I consider to be anathema on a lever action rifle. During the recent excitement over firearms regulation, I finally acquired my first ever semi-automatic rifle. It was a Springfield Armory M1A (the "loaded" version with the walnut stock). I'm extremely happy with it and find it much more in keeping with my idea of an EBR than the M-16 vari...

Based on your description, this single shot on a Mauser action, there's a very good chance it's chambered for the 8.15x46R cartridge, which is a bit less powerful than a .30-30. The cartridge was also very popular for target shooting. You can form brass for it from the .30-30.

My go-to scope for hunting rifles, other than varmint rifles, is the Leupold 1.5-5x. I prefer the Vari-XIII, although the newer models are also fine. I set it to 3x and only change it if I'm sitting on the edge of clearcut. You might also look for an older Redfield Widefield in 2-3/4, which is quite...

Took it shooting today. The 2400 loads were a disappointment, but the IMR 4227 loads showed promise. Best 100 yard group ran about 1-1/4 inches for 5 shots at 100. More work to do on load development, but that's not bad for a levergun with a 6X scope at 100.
