Re: Go rent GRAN TORINO!!! Do it NOW !!!

Clint's 1911 wasn't a GI model; I think it was one of the newer pimped out Para Ordnance models. Probably because it actually was Clint's 1911. Or maybe he actually carries that big magnum around with him. Not his best movie, and I agree it was a little unrealistic and contrived. But you have to gi...

It's gotten so bad that good rifles no longer come with any irons at all. You have to shell out buckets of cash for a scope set up just to shoot them. Then try, I'm serious, just try to find a gunsmith that is capable of putting irons on a rifle correctly. Those I've found locally are incompetent i...

Scopes on all rifles are overused and overrated. I avoid them whenever possible. They've kept a generation of shooters tied to a bench and convinced them that they cannot possibly hit anything without optics. Part of the problem is the low-quality of the irons available today, if any irons are avail...

The only "war" that the lever gun had any major use in were the indian wars and even then only on the indian side or in the hands of civilians, never the military. As Hobie noted, leverguns were indeed used in war. In Turkish hands they had a major impact at Plevna. They were also used in...

You have to use your imagination and open your mind. Way back when, the levergun was a weapon of war. Would you really consider yourself undergunned with that Marlin in the trenches of WWI? I know I'd rather have it than some clunky Lebel. Think of the bayonet levergun as the American trench gun tha...

I beg to differ. The ACP uses short, round bullets with a very low sectional density. It's actually designed NOT to penetrate very much, because it's for shooting two legged varmints. The .44 Mag with bear loads has heavier, much longer bullets with a SD many times greater than an ACP's standard loa...

Looks like a Swiss Vertelli to my eye, with some sporterizing done to it. By that time (certainly past 1895) the Swiss had gone over to the Schmidt-Rubin line and the Vertellis were probably surplussed out.
