Re: Dad or grandpa's guns

Thanks for this post. I very rarely have anything to share with you all. My dad died unexpectedly, suddenly, and peacefully four days ago at a very healthy 84 years young. He was my hero. He had had an excellent day, doing several of the things he loved. He sat down for a short rest before going out...

Re: Black Powder Velocity Limit?

Didn't some of the BIG guns on battleships use black powder? I know that is a bit different than our sporting arms, but I wonder what velocities they worked with.

Re: Way OT; Signature Lines

My signature line is: "Don't ask what the world needs you to do. Instead, find what makes you come alive and do that, because what the world needs is people who are alive." from "Wild at Heart" by John Eldredge "Wild at Heart" changed my life. If you are a man, or if yo...

Re: Pressure signs in 45 Colt lever gun?

Influenced by the book "Wild at Heart" by John Eldredge, My wife and I know our son (and daughters to a lesser degree) need to take chances / risks to fully enjoy their lives as God intends. But since we hope they put a little thought into these risks, our family "Goodbye" to eac...

Re: OT - Lee Breech Block Vs Turrett Press

I don't know when they first came out, but I have been using my three-hole Lee turret press as my main press for over 30 years. I have loaded many thousands of rounds from .223 through .458 Winchester Magnum. It is starting to develop a little play in the lever, but if it crashes on me, I will gladl...

Just handled a Rossi Ranch Hand.45 Colt

Just handled a Rossi Ranch Hand in .45 Colt. I thought it might possibly be a good backpacking companion (Nope! Big bore revolver is better for me). I'm sure it would be fun for awhile, but novelty does not endure, and if I am going to pay for a movie prop, I think I will hold out for a real functio...

Rossi 92 loading gate jam

I have three Rossi 92s - 20"blue .454, 16" blue .45Colt, and blue 24" .357 rifle, all bought new, and all with top safety. With the .454 and the .357, I have had problems with the loading gate getting pushed out, locking up the action. To clear the jam, I removed the magazine spring a...

Re: Slightly OT - lubing bullets with LEE equipment

I've been casting for over thirty years. I've used Lyman and RCBS Lubrisizers, lots of LLA (Lee Liquid Alox), and patched boolits with paper and with teflon tape. The method I use now whenever possible is Johnsons Paste Wax. I haven't tried it yet for 30-30 or my Ruger#1 in 458 Winchester, but it ha...

Re: OT-Sterling College (KS) reputation

My oldest daughter went to Sterling her freshman year, and would still be going there if my wife had not begun working at the private university here in our hometown two years ago(which allows her to attend tuition free.) I asked my daughter what were the best things about Sterling, and she immediat...
