The first gun I bought for myself after high school was a 94 Winchester in .30-30. A skunk had the misfortune of getting too close to my uncle's farmhouse not long after.
150 gr soft point + skunk = hamburger!

Anybody want to start a Puzzle? (Receivers!!!!)
This looks to be another one like I started out with (Lone Star Comm) except this one has not been nickel-plated. More expesive than they used to be, though. http://www.forthehunt.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=95255940 Here's another with a barrel: http://www.forthehunt.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item...

I'm about to put a barrel mount-type Williams aperture sight on the bolt of a 94. I had to modify the contour of the sight base to fit the radius of the bolt, but all that took was elbow grease, a roundfile and some emory. I have decided to have the mount holes drilled profressionally , as I would h...

The lad showed his mettle this morning. We went out to check the new hog trap (something little got the bait w/o getting caught) and took a few other guns. Yesterday he was shoting my .38-55 with a real rain bow load (275 gr bullet @ ~1375 at a 200 yard gong). I handed him my son's .30-30 trapper lo...

Yesterday evening we had a family gathering at my folks' cabin to bid farewell to my niece and nephew before they go to Japan for four years (Air Force). I went up to the barn to feed when I first got there and while doing that, I heard smebody shooting something big off the bench. When I was throug...

If you outlaw yo yoes
Just saw an interesting commercial....
A Diet Mountain Dew commercial. "Did you know yo yoes were invented as weapons?"
They then replaced guns with yo yoes. It appeared to make a lot of fun of folks with gunophobia.

Your hand may touch the side mount, but after getting used to it, it won't bother you. You can get any of several front sights from Winchester/Browning. You can also look at Brownells, Midway, etc. Many here prefer a post front like the Sour Dough (Brownells). The Williams sight can be purchased fro...

I finally had time to get the website info for the origins of my forge plans.
http://www.iforgeiron.com/blueprints-10 ... forge.html
I chose this design for it's size, lack of complexity and being made of materials I could relatively easily acquire.
