I can't say enough good about Marlin's Cowboys. About the best thing I can say, is I own about a half dozen of them, and shoot 'em all on a regular basis.

My shorthair could recognize different guns. I'd pull out a rifle, he would just look at me. Pull out any rifle, the same look. Pull out a shotgun, he'd raise his head. A dozen different ones, he would watched intently. But if I brought out my Ruger Red Label, he would jump up, stand on his hind leg...

Not sure about hogs, but I can't imagine anything more satisfying than elk with a handgun. I took my first one with a .44 S&W at 90 yards some 30 years ago!

Owning both, my vote is tossed in the ring for the 71. Mine will shot under 3" at 200 yards with the bolt mounted peep. More power than most of us will ever need in this lifetime.

I use 3031 with the 200gr RCBS and run them at about 2000fps. Really great accuracy and recoil is very manageable.

Years before I ever read much about handgun hunting, I was killing deer (a lot of them!) with a 255gr cast at 950 from .44's and 255's at 800fps from a .45acp. Never had a problem nor every needed a second shot that I can remember. It was one of those things I never even thought about.

I use only two different 30-30 loads, don't need anything else. The first is my hunting load and it does a great job on even elk. A Lyman 311041 and 28grs of 3031. I get about 2000fps and have never recovered on from a deer, black bear or elk. Kills like a sledge hammer, even on our larger Roosevelt...

A dandy rifle!
I'm a big fan of Cabela's gun library, found a couple absolute dandy's there in the last few years! Compared to GB, what I found was a real bargain at 1/2 the GB price.

I've shot thousands of CCI CB Caps for years, because they are quieter than a pellet gun. At least, out of a bolt action with a 24" barrel, it is so quiet the firing pin is about the loudest part. Great killers of crows and cats.

I absolutely adore the .410. My safe has plenty of 12's, 16's and 20's, even a 28. But my 410's take the most game for me, which is ruffed and blue grouse. My Savage 24 22/410 is used the most on my little farm, but a dandy Turkish made little Gazelle O/U is what I hunt with.
