Range Report Win 73 SRC pic added

OK… Got out to the range yesterday (cool, intermittent clouds with light wind) to try yet another lead bullet load in the old Win. 73 SRC 44WCF, I figured this would prolly be my last shot at getting lead bullets to work in it.. & I’m happy to report that finally , I’ve found a lead bullet...

Yup made one from a heavy truck spring in the forge I used to have..Drew it out.. rough cut it with the hot chisel..let cool down slow in a box of hydrated lime so she'd be soft & easy to work..Filed it to shape.. drilled it for the scales.. Heated her up to cherry in a dark room.. quenched in a...

Guys..all nice rifles....Hobie..22" barrel? I'd be alright with a tang safety feature if I went with a metallic sight on the 99..I've got the tang safety on my scoped 7x57 Ruger 77 & love it.. no interference on that one

Depending on the fore arm length for looks 24" or carbine length would be plenty handy..with a short tang sight..You'd have all the sight radius you'll ever need for hunting..

After you have made the crimp have you tried backing the cartridge out a tad and rotating it a half a turn & then pushing it back up in the die for another go at crimping..?

mescalero1.. I beleive in the older Savages the magazine rotors are specific to the caliber..The Bullberry shoulder is farther forward than the 25-35 and may not correctly nest in the 25-35 rotor..

Modoc ED... There was a topic about these rifles on the old forum & IIRC folks were saying after market 10/22 barrels could be used in place of the 22M barrels...If you wanted to make yourself another 10/22..

I've seen before it too.. Notice the rust on the bare metal...I seem to remember from before that it was found in the woods..or left in the woods for a time before it was retieved..Never heard about the load that wrecked it untill now..

I really like iron sights ... be it open or aperture..but when the light gets low the scope is the way to go.. The fun I used to have offhand shooting and slapping the 200 yard gongs w/ various rifles & pistols at a range I used to frequent was great.. Well, the fun got spoilt when they enclosed...
