You might try resting the rifle over a rolled up sleeping bag..the rifle settles in nicely for support & cushion the rifle under recoil....nylon covers let the rifle recoil backwards smoothly.. The highth of the bag will probably put you in a more upright position... you may need to raise your r...

Savage 99 Action Issues

Reading the post about the 94 Winchester action tightening up was interesting..Pins bending, wear issues in on the different parts...... This caused me to wonder what kinds of action issues is the Savage 99 known to have that stop it... I'm new to the 99 & so have only heard of one so far.. weak...

5" low wont require but about 35 thou taken off the top of the front sight if you've got 24" between the sights.. about 7 thou per inch @ 100.. You can wack the front sight down twice that, but your rear sight will still be pretty close to 3/8ths" anyway..

Depends on the engine. Not all radials are rotary.
I thought in a Radial engine, the crankshaft moves, but the cylinders/engine is stationary, and in the Rotary, the crankshaft is stationary & the clylinders/crankcase/engine rotate..

Nice report Kirk.. Glad you got the rifle back up & running..Looks very encouraging.... It's probably barrel harmonics as you suggest... OTOH moving the rest farther forward decreases the amount of pivoting you get between your shoulder & fore arm...
