One year, back in Maine, there were no electrician jobs so I took a job cutting pulp wood.
Everyday I'd see deer back in the trees watching.
I don't know if it was the sound or they were waiting to get at the fresh cut limbs.

Long about 1950 the whole country decided to breed for looks instead of brains.
Fortunately I was born in '49.

Re: Humor: Grocery Store Run
Stopped at the store once and bought a candy bar for 50 cents.
I gave the HS graduate a $5 bill because I didn't have any change.
He gave me $4.50 back.
So, I said Now I have change. I'll give you the 50 cents and you give me the five back.
If I hadn't stopped him he would have.

Re: Question about front sight on a old 92 winchester carbine.
Thanks Joe,
I put on a .343 fire sight for now. Original blades at winchester bob's are listed as .325, .360, and 375 in nickle silver.
I don't know why I care right now. I've got enough to do fitting the new wood.
Bill

Re: Question about front sight on a old 92 winchester carbine.
I have the same question. Winchester sporting rifle in 25/20. When I bought it it had a .312 rifle bead and shot 4" high at 50 with the rear down on the barrel. I'd like the original blade with brass but, the online parts shops list 3 different heights.

Re: Only One
Dan Wesson 15-2, I've had it since 1982.
I have 4", 6", and 8" barrels for it. The rear sight is a Millet with a peep blade and the front is a rifle bead.
The springs are from Bullseye.

I can't leave anything alone. I'm finishing up a tile shower 5' x 34" in the second bath today. I only built it because I had never done one and didn't know how.

Squeezing in would have been a better term.
Because the inside dimension of the end cap at the screws was larger than the width of the mount dovetailed to the barrel every time I removed metal to get barrel clearance it would close that gap when I tightened the screws and clamp down on the barrel. The tricky part was adding enough spacer to s...

Probably explains why Homestead sold it to me for $697 instead of the $1500 I usually see.

Still need stock and fore end for it.
Somebody tried to put a sling on it twice and I have two torn out holes in the fore end.
He also put a carbine stock on a sporting rifle and the balance is off.
I'm leaning toward Precision Gun Works for the stock.
25-20 is fun, don't even need earplugs.

Wanna see 113 years worth of crud in an 1892?
Thought the rifling was shallow until I cleaned the lead out of the barrel. Then I did a complete teardown. I even found the threaded end of a plastic cleaning jag under the cartridge lifter. I may get a longer screw for the trigger spring and put a spacer under it to lighten the trigger pull. I don...

What I did to the Guide Gun.
Got bored and completely tore down the Guide Gun one day. It had been drifting off when the barrel got hot. When I put it back together the screw holes in the fore end cap didn't line up. It was hard against the bottom of the barrel and still missed by 1/3 of a hole. I ground away some metal and got...

Re: 45-70 CHAMBERING PROBLEM WITH THE SPEER 405 GRAIN BULLET
I had the same problem with a Winchester/Moroku EL '86 using the Lasercast 400 gr I use exclusively. Being unemployed at the time I had a lot of time to think about it. I chucked a round ball dremel fine grit grinding bit in an electric drill and ran it against a rock until it matched the dimensions...

Another 1892 question
I finally tried the 25-20 sporting rifle after taking the action down to parade rest and removing 113 years of crud including the threaded end of a nylon jag. What hight should the front sight be? Mine is .250 from the top of the octagon to the top of the bead. With the rear at its lowest setting I'...

Got the 92 from Homestead.
Got it today. Build date was 1897. Its a sporting rifle with 23" octagon and a tight action. When I first checked it I said "Gee, that rifling is shallow". 2 hours later using Klean Bore Lead Away and a good solvent I said "Gee, that rifling is deep and sharp". Anyone used M...

I ordered a 92 sporting rifle in 25-20 yesterday for $697.

I'm not happy about it.
When I got my Arizona CCW it was a 2 1/2 day qualification course run by training officers from the local PD's. The first 2 days were classroom instruction including the shoot-don't shoot video machine then a half day on the range. Everyone was given a rights and responsibilities pamphlet written by...

That site is addictive as hell.
They just headed back because it's too dark to see. I guess they go out again at 7:30 Pacific time tonight.
Reminds me of the few days I spent in the Masai Mara in 2006.

Re: Winchester 1886 45/70 some ?'s
Bought an 86EL a while back used. Typical used 45/70, the PO tried some Remington 350gr JSP and decided he didn't deserve that abuse. I met him, he deserved it. Put a Williams receiver sight on it. I did notice it had a short throat. The Laser Cast that fit the guide gun were too long for the 86. Th...
