Re: Happy Times!!! First Colt SAA

Joe,
Do you think those 45 LC loads will fit in my 44 sp cylinder  :D

None of the manuals I have go up to 8.0 gr of Unique for the 44 sp, but they certainly do for the 45 LC. I've got some research to do.

Re: 40-72 Round 2 Data

Ed, I looked at my "Shooting Leverguns" book by Venturino last night to see what 3031 loads were in there, if any. What I found was very interesting, in that it contradicts your actual experience, and re-affirms your original assumptions (which ultimately proved inaccurate). Anyway, for th...

Re: Happy Times!!! First Colt SAA

Don't worry Joe. I was mostly kidding. Perhaps a nice action job is in order at some point, and some nice stocks, but that's all. As long as I can find a nice load to shoot point of aim I'll be happy as a clam.

Although I do have a Ruger that is going to get the David Clements treatment.

Very interesting Ed. Thanks for the update.

It seems like a guy could gather up recent published data using 3031 for such cartridges at 40-65, 40-82, 38-72, and 40-70, and interpolate some data just to see where it falls with your 40-72 data.

The Lyman 38 is the version with a windage screw, but you see them much less frequently than the Lyman 21. The 21 must be drift adjusted. The slit on the right side can be opened up very slightly with small screwdriver and the peep moved with your fingers. Put the screwdriver blade into the slit and...
