Re: Up and Running Again
Wild goose, get yourself BLUE LOCKTITE, just a half a drop will hold those forend screws just fine and you'll be able to turn them out with very little effort! Just be sure to degrease the screws and the holes. When I got my Henry 41 mag I had fouling problems, DO SHOOT PLATED BULLETS, after I got ...

It sounds like you took good advantage of the down time before the knee got ready for steady use. One thing they don't tell you about the new knee that would be good to know is that it keeps getting better and stronger for at least a year or year and a half. Which also means that it takes that year...

Wildgoose, last summer I got a Henry 41 mag. I started using plated bullets and that was a BIG MISTAKE! I had fouling like I've never seen before! Ok not really a contest. Just a fun day at the range shooting some loads at 100 yards. Went out to try out my first .44 NOE ranch dog cast bullets in the Henry. The results were not too bad. All nice and good advice on various lubes. But... what's important is to know what you are intending to use it for. I am satisfied with it. It functions well and is as accurate as one would have expected it to be. All in all a good buy among the levers on the market today. I didn't encounter any issues that I would have wanted to send it back for or discovered any major flaws.1894c wrote:How do you like your Henry?

Got out to the range to try out my NOE cast bullets. The mold is a two cavity that casts both plain base and gas check slugs. I just went with wheel weights to start with and kept the loads down to starting levels. I really don't want to mess with heat treating or mixing up harder cast alloy if its ...

Re: 44 Henry Range Work
Holy Moly, Wildgoose. Do you have any idea what pressure that 29.5 grain load might be generating? That's 5 grains above Hodgdon's max load for a 240 grain bullet. On the bright side, it must be nicely compressed, which H110 likes to be for best velocity consistency. If that isn't a misprint I am v...

44 Henry Range Work (With Load Correction!)
Had a chance to try out the test loads for my new Henry 44 Steel. From the first session I had a month ago or so it didn't look too good for H110 loads with Hornady 240 grain XTP bullets. Today pretty much confirmed this. The pics tell the tail. About the best that could be done with all of the vari...

With those sights, and the 240 grainers, that 3.5 inch sounds about right. I have no idea what the twist on them things are. Maybe not enough for 300s? Your right about the twist.
