I find it hard to understand why folks ignore danger and go to places where this sort of thing can happen without carrying the means to protect themselves. Here in the UK we cannot carry weapons for self defense so most folks have no choice. :x Complaicancy. Many in here in US (and I'm sure the pre...

Such a shame.
An unarmed human in the woods really is just prey. The predators usually walk on two legs, though.

We have a huge chunk of National forest land here in Vermont as well as some sizeable state forests. I also notice that a lot of people around here don't want to get too far off the beaten path. The problem is that it's all dependent upon snow. I personally can't follow a deer track for too long wit...

#2 Hunting like you say they do requires a lot of land, several miles of contiguous land probably. In the country I hunt in, I have about 2 miles of creek bottom I use for whitetails. In the middle of that is about 300yds of property I don't have permission for. they actually admit this as a limita...

The Benoit Method of Deer hunting
For those who are unfamiliar with the Benoits, they are family from Vermont who are known for their abilities to consistently bag trophy bucks. Over Christmas, I splurged a bit and picked up a book about their hunting methods. I was surprised at how simple it is. Basically, they find a track and fol...

If I was in the market for a big bore rifle and already had a .44 mag handgun, I'd probably opt for the .444 since the bullets (not the cartridges) are the same for both. Also, if with handloads your guide gun can handle 200 yard shots, maybe the .444 can handle 300 yard shots. It certainly would be...

Jason, Don't confuse global climate change due to human activity with our ability to poison the planet. The latter we can do quite easily although we are getting better at cleaning up our act. Our impact on long term climate is practically nil, and only our arrogance could imply we have than much i...

The things we do may not be so good for us, but the planet just doesn't care. When we have gone the way of the dinosaurs, and we will, nature and the earth will still be here and the weather won't matter. :) Very true. But my self preservation instinct would like us to not do ourselves in with such...

I tend to agree with Jason. It's common knowledge that the climate changes regardless of what we do. But its also pretty silly to think that what we do to the environment isn't haveing any effect. Doubt it'll matter in the long term as far as the planet goes. We probably wont be here long enough, a...

The 30-30 as a control is a good idea as Terry said it is a well know constant. How about some .45colt out to 150yrds from a lever? Well, I don't have a .45 colt, but if I can get a loaner I'll definitely test it. Unfortunately, since I'm not an exceptionally wealthy man, I'll be limited to the gun...

As soon as the weather thaws things out again, I'm planning on conducting a series of terminal ballistics tests of every cartridge I can get my hands on. I actually see more pump action Remingtons than anything else. A lot of old 760 Gamemasters and some newer 7600s. Bolt actions are next in line and levers and semi-autos are last.

OT-Gibbs Rifle Company (rechambered Enfields)
Up to a year or two ago a company called Gibbs was selling rechambered Enfield rifles in .308 Win and 45/70. I though this was a cool idea, but my gun money at the time was going toward leverguns. Now, I can't find the link to company. Did anyone else hear of this company. Did they go out of busines...

I'm a member of a musician's forum which attracts people from all walks of life. On the politics forum there, gun control is a hot topic. OT-New .22 problem
I bought a new Savage Mark II (that accutrigger is really cool) and it's real accurate, but It doesn't seem to like to feed from the magazine into the chamber
I guess I'll call the company. I hope it's an easy fix because I really like the gun otherwise.

Ok, you guys got me. I don't need another .22, but I want one, and oddly, I can afford one this month. Wonder how that happened :? as for the model 60 I have now, I just don't care for it much. every now and then I'll come across a rifle that I just don't get along with (Savage 110e, Ruger .44 lever).

jason, If this is a older Model 60 or one of the variants it can be returned to functioning condition for a bit of work and funds. She's taking a day long marathon course this saturday. She's getting a bit aggrevated though due to the fact that the workbook often has questions that are not covered in the corresponding instructional textbook, not to mention some outright contradictions. In the part that covers the field dressing...
