Re: Question: Win. Mod. 1886 (1894mfg) .40-82 old vs new par

Thanks Ken, that's good to know. I did order a few Model 1886 parts from places and they fit perfectly/work fine as you also mentioned. Given that some parts on eBay, Gunbroker, etc cost, lets say for example, ... $100.00 and the same part from one of 2-3 companies out there cost $23.50, as long as ...

Re: Question: Win. Mod. 1886 (1894mfg) .40-82 old vs new par

While I'm sorting through things I may as well take a few pictures of the remaining items before putting everything away. To keep the rifle picture somewhat clean I omitted the many small bags and small boxes of all the missing parts that fill all those empty voids you see such as missing finger lev...

Re: Marlin M1889 SRC - question regarding stock replacement

To update my earlier article, I realized I never provided a clear reply - Figuratively speaking, the early Marlin Model 1893 & 1894 have the same profile and will be a suitable match, but not without some slight alteration to the lower tang slot. The lower tang on the Model 1889 is 10mm longer t...

Re: Question: Win. Mod. 1886 (1894mfg) .40-82 old vs new par

Hello again, I found some time over the weekend to go through my cabinets and cases of my many projects to see exactly each needed. In my search through several small boxes and labeled bags I discovered I had at some point acquired the parts for 1886 Win that I first asked about, mixed in somehow in...

Question: Win. Mod. 1886 (1894mfg) .40-82 old vs new parts

Hello All, I have a question about new-made-for-modern-and-clones vs. original-Winchester-made (IE, Antique) parts for one of my projects, a plain Win. M1886 Rifle in .40-82 (#795xx, left the factory 8-4-1894 per Cody). Over the years I have casually picked up odd parts here and there (eBay, GB &...

Re: Marlin M1889 SRC - question regarding stock replacement

Found the answer. A 1893/1894 SRC stock is a replacement. For now it will have to sit in the safe with my many other Marlin/Winchester projects as time & $$ permit. Lately an old 1878 (1881) Colt Frontier .45 has been occupying my spare time.

Marlin M1889 SRC - question regarding stock replacement

Hello all, I have a Marlin M1889 SRC that I'm trying to bring back to life (along with the 10+ other old Marlin/Winchester/Colt projects I have shelved....). It mainly needs a stock. It has an old "Handmade Replacement" on it now that was apparently "Good enough" for whoever carv...

Re: Askin 4 help identifying Win. finger lever 1860/1866/187

Hello Griff - I agree, the M1866 did not have a safety. There are two levers I show in pictures, the M1873 3rd type is only for size comparison (top lever) to the smaller lever in question (bottom lever). The top lever has the forward piece just behind the trigger loop that will engage the safety of...

Askin 4 help identifying Win. finger lever 1860/1866/1873?

Hello, I'm new in here - Name is John from Mass. I have been rebuilding a 1st model Win 1873 SRC a while now - I acquired it as someone's abandoned *project* and have been picking up original parts for it whenever I come across them (mainly internals, a dust cover, and most recently- a Finger Lever ...
