Buckeyeshooter Id love a Turnbull but its a bit over what id like to spend..i would if i could!buckeyeshooter wrote: ↑Fri Mar 02, 2018 5:22 am Don't forget to look at a Turnbull 1886. The price differental is worth the upgrade in quality. You dont have to get 45/70. You can go 45/90, 50/110 or 470 Turnbull too.

Mike, In spite of what others have said, I never cared for Trail Boss....could be because I had a few bad experiences with it in an 1886 in 45-70......wild extreme spreads...but...that could be due to inexperience with the powder. I shoot several thousand rounds a year in the 348.....it gets fed 22...

Re: Using .401 plated bullets in .38-40...yes?..No?

Not sure I want to do that again though. not sure you want to file the tip or use the plate...

Re: Using .401 plated bullets in .38-40...yes?..No?
Taper crimp them for the .38-40. The Lee FCD can fracture the thin plating if overdone. No crimp is needed if the sizing die and expander dimentions give a good tight friction fit, a.k.a. Bullet pull. Keep velocitys below 1K in most cases. yes but the Lee is adjustable from nothing to bone crunchin...

Re: Using .401 plated bullets in .38-40...yes?..No?
Watch your velocity. I think that the plated bullets are limited to about 1200 fps. You already know about no crimp. Are the noses flat enough for feeding through a tubular rifle magazine or are you loading them just for revolvers? Jack Yes Jack flat nose...they would be going thru a 92...you can r...
