If you can find some, 12 shot is the key to dense patterns. I use it in my 44 Mag and 45 Colt in the Speer shot capsules with some Unique and they don't require a second shot!

Re: Remington 788 --- Anyone have any experience to share?

I had one in 222 Rem. Great rifles! As accurate as anything out there and likely one of the most accurate 30-30's ever made. Folks who shoot cast bullets love 788's in 30-30 Win. Only thing (for me) about the 788 is that it's a bit heavy and "chunky" for my style of deer hunting. The carbi...

Re: 30/30 Handload Problem

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm using Winchester brass, Lee 30/30 Factory Crimp die, and centering the crimp on the cannelure. I'll mic the expander ball and then go from there. May try sizing some without the expander ball in place while I'm at it. With any luck I'll get it figured out.

Maybe I''ll try that Shasta as the bullets are measuring at .308". At least it's something to check out. Wonder what the ID of the neck will be though and the increase in pressure?

30/30 Handload Problem

Need some help please. I'm loading for a pre'64 94 in 30/30 Win. I'm using a Sierra 150 FN w/cannelure (which looks and feels like nothing more then shallow scraps). I'm using an RCBS sizing die and a Lee factory crimp die. My problem is that when I load the rounds into the magazine tube (without fi...

Max Loads w/IMR 3031 & Win. 94

I'm loading for a Win. '94 (circa 1963) 30-30 and using IMR 3031 with a 150 gr. Sierra FN. I've been loading for 40 years but I'm confused by the wide disparity of max's and the 30-30 with this powder. Well, after weeks of lying on my bench in pieces I finally got her back together. Polished the carrier a bit, nothing big. But I noticed the spring (tail) of the loading gate was bent to one side causing the inner "rib" to tilt downward some. Straightened the spring out and after some tria...

Thanks Griff and folks. I finally got the nerve to strip her down and realized that there was a slight twist in the spring section of the loading gate. I think that when it was in place that twist caused the loading gate to angle down some; not certain but maybe a cause. I straightened it out and am...

My first self-bought rifle was a Remington 581 back in '71-72 and it's still in service. My son's first rifle was a 581, an honest 1/4-1/2" 5 shot rifle at 50 yds. with lowly Win. T-22's and a cheap 3x9 scope. Bought my nephew a 581, crazy accurate with Win. Power Points. My brother and his two...
