Re: Marlin 336 Research & Development Rifle

Longrange, get the brass I sent 'ya? Or, did you find any additional? I'm keeping my eye out.----------6 I did, and THANK YOU. Sorry I didn't call ya. I've been crazy busy with work and a new puppy. I now have close to 60 or so pieces of brass, so I should be good to go for now. I found someone wit...

Re: how pointy is too pointy?

What about the use of magnum primers? They typically have a much thicker cup and resist detonating unless a lot of direct force is applied. It's like inducing a slam fire Ina floating firing pin type weapon. You don't want to use soft primers in a garand or m1a, so you use magnum or mil-spec primers...

Re: Marlin 336 Research & Development Rifle

Longrange, It's no biggie. Remember now, I feel like you got the deal. I bought you a new 30-30 of your choice and a mess of ammo to go with it. You did not get any headaches---- I did. But these are headaches that I enjoy. The heavy scale rust has been fun to play with and remember the rust in tho...

Re: Marlin 336 Research & Development Rifle

Re: What is this???

That must be the Marlin version of the "One Piece at a Time" Cadillac that Johnny Cash sang about. :) I'd get it one piece at a time and it wouldn't cost me a dime You'll know it's me when I come through your town I'm gonna ride around in style, I'm gonna drive everybody wild 'Cause I'll ...

Re: What is this???

Well, the deal with this rifle is the fact that I need a rifle I can hunt with without having to put a lot of work into it and sixgun made me an offer I couldnt refuse. It's a cool piece of history and I feel honored to own it, but I would rather have something I don't need to mess with that will pu...

Re: What is this???

I'm guessing that it is chambered in .35 rem. the 38spl round does engage the rifling right at the bottom of the ogive, just before it meets the case.

Does anyone want to hook me up with a single .35 rem cartridge or dummy round?

Nothing under there either. I can't find one roll mark or stamp anywhere. The bolt is almost identical to a newer marlin 336 that I have access to also..

How common are "lunch box specials"?

Re: What is this???

There are absolutely no markings anywhere. I'm beginning to lean towards the "lunch box special" rifle.. More photos on Flickr if anyone is interested. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2850/9846233306_ed256b92c6_c.jpg Untitled by SVThuh , on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7316/984620891...

What is this???

I think it's an old marlin, but there are no serial numbers anywhere, no markings anywhere, nothing at all... It's not chambered in .44mag, .357mag or .30-30 (gently tried chambering these rounds yesterday) It was given to me by a friend who got it from an inheritance. No clue as to what it is thoug...
