Re: OT, any Mauser guys here?
My guess would be 1909 Argentine because of the adapter for the bayonet. If it has a stamp of "clasped hands" (handshake) then you know for sure. Looks like either a calvary or engineers carbine from the length, can't remember which one didn't have the muzzle cap off the top of my head.......

Re: OT: AARP What The Heck.
I've been getting stuff from AARP, Medicare/medicaid, for years. There was an invite for an educational dinner that I told my wife we should really go to, but she didn't want to go, I guess that it's for the best, considering that we're in our 30's....... (Every time they call, I tell them, maybe th...

Re: OT - Powder Scale Accuracy
Well...... I had an RCBS electronic for all of about two hours 15 years ago.... I throw light and trickle and I *really* didn't like that it took 4-5 kernels of powder (imr 4064) to register a change. On the 5-0-5 one kernel is a visible difference.

Re: #6 shot or slugs for home defense?
For those of us still waiting on frackin' paperwork, a long gun is the only (legal) option. That being said, dam, I guess that I'm being kinda nice!!! 12 ga the first two are S&B rubber buckshot, the last three are double aught (thinking I might want to switch to #4 buck tho, it took me long eno...

Re: .45acp V. .357---Let's Settle This Once and For All
Keep in mind that if it works on a beast, it'll work on a man. However, if it works on a man, it might *not* work on a beast. I agree about the .45 Colt being the historical favorite, but that was a 250gr at @1000 FPS. The .45 ACP is a bit less than that, but not much. Now, an old three screw in .45...

Interesting.... I have the same one.... I was batting around the idea of trimming the barrel to 18", but maybe I should keep it as is.... "but honey, now I *need* another one"

Re: Gimee Gimee upgrades... Rossi M92 gets some
Here's another tip for the Rossi's. Replace the mainspring with a Wolff spring. I'm pretty sure that the right one is a 19 pound Ruger Blackhawk mainspring, but I'll have to check..

Re: Mauser Question
Hello all, well, I just checked (30-06 thru an 8mm Mauser) the round does clear, but the magazine box would need a little more length.
Here's some food for thought.... .257 Roberts
less kick than a 25-06, and heavier bullet than the .243 (I'm assuming *feral* hogs, they're tough)

Re: Mauser Question
Just another plus for the .243, 1) you won't have to do anything to the bolt face 2) I'll check with my GEW 98, but I'm not sure if a loaded '06 round will clear the reciever on ejection or if it'll hang up. 3) There *shouldn't* be any problem with feeding, but if there is, it'll be an easy fix (not...

Re: What do you use to get excess copper ......
Hello all, first reply from a new member here.... I have the same problem with an old Mauser GEW 98, let me tell ya, it builds up copper right quick. Try a 10% ammonia cleaner (I got mine from Ace hardware, it's listed as janitorial strength) I wet patch it untill they stop coming out bright blue, t...
