Re: 44/40 VS 45 colt for Deer

Wasn't TOO many decades ago that there was speculation as to which caliber had killed the most deer. .44 WCF or .30 WCF? That might be something to think about...

Inside 100 yds like you mentioned, .44 WCF will do the job as well as it ever has which numbers what....millions?

Re: Uses for IMR 4759?

Hodgdon discontinued importing it , despite all our protests, they went with "their stockholders". It's made in Canada by Rockwell (?) Apparently the machinery is worn and whatever powers that be in charge don't wanna spring for an overhaul.... Besides 4759, PB and a couple other powders ...

Re: What's the largest, most powerful cartridge/rifle you own?

Are you the same Bucks Owin that got banned from CastBoolits for not following through on trades and sales. If so, then you own me for a set of RCBS 45-70 dies I sent well over three years ago. You were supposed to send me a Redfield Mauser receiver sight. If you are some other Bucks Owin, then wel...

Dang! Circle the wagons! Nice buncha repeaters! But hey, what's the secret for posting photos? I've tried "copy" from photobucket and "paste" to here. I just get the "uploading" thing forever but nothing happens. Is it 'cause I'm on a laptop with crappy WiFi reception? ...

Re: .30/30 Ackley Improved

My rifle (actually carbine) is a 1973 but it hasn't had a lot of wear by the looks of it and the bore is great. There is a little wear arounnd the firing pin, maybe from dry firing? From the looks of fired factory cases, there's no setback. At least the primers don't protrude a little like a lot of ...

Re: .30/30 Ackley Improved

http://www.levergunscommunity.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=21073 Be careful. Not all actions can take the extra stress. Most of my rounds were normal 42k psi or under 30-30 being fire-formed to AI. I probably ran 50 real AI rounds through it -- estimated 45-50k psi over its life. Lasted between 900-...

Re: 30WCF - What's so great about it?

I spent a few years up in BC and and can tell you that the .30/30 and .303 British outnumber the other calibers combined I'd bet. And both bring home the moose meat every year. My dad killed more than a dozen with his .270 with both 130 and 150 Noslers.(He was a big Jack O'Connor fan. Me too) I've u...

Howdy Buck Owin, Welcome to the forum.....One thing I would like to say is.....I do not believe in Dem or Rep. anymore. I am going to register as an independent from here on out. Both the Right and the left are equally corrupt and work together to accomplish their goals of domination. :( Howdy your...

Re: what gun you wish

Man, I've owned a lot of Winchesters over the years that I wish I had back, pre-64 M70s mainly. But also Models 88 and 100 in .284 and a few M-12 shotguns. I should have talked my dad into keeping a M-95 in .405 years ago too. Most recently I let a 10" Ruger .44 Flattop slip away (The "aut...

Re: What's the largest, most powerful cartridge/rifle you own?

Since my M-70s in .300 and .338 are history, it'd be my .45/70 Handy Rifle. Seems when my age passed the half century mark I started "looking back" in regard to what calibers I play with. (Or maybe my recoil tolerance has diminished! ) These days I'm into the .45 LC, .30/30 and .45/...

.30/30 Ackley Improved

Paco, your piece entitled "7.62x51R revisited" is great! If you would though, I'd like you to expand your experiences with the .30/30 A.I. I've been toying with the idea of going with a rechamber of my M-94. Not so much for the velocity gain (altho, why not!) but to have a chamber that red...

Winchester Model 95 in "Teddy's" caliber!!!

My dad was a certifiable gun nut, always swapping for new "toys". I remember when I was around 12 yrs old he came into possession of a M-95 Win in .405 WCF. He managed to come up with a dozen or so empty cases from somewhere and put together some rounds for it. I had twice fired his M-70 &...
