Re: What say you - picatinny rail for marlin scout scope
I put a xs picatinny on a Winchester 1886, mounted a fastfire sight on it and works like a champ and it is a 50-110. Something my boy wanted. was actually pretty easy, the hardest part was drilling and tapping the receiver bridge. The gun was parts gun bythe way. Thinking about putting one on my 188...

Re: Chiappa 1886 .45-70
Yep, I wouldn't go near Chiappa or Taylors. I've tried getting parts for their rifles with no luck. Neither Taylors nor Chiappa seem to care. I've even spoke to both of them on the phone, bottom line they just don't care. Just think what their businesses could do if either one had a real service ori...

Re: winchester 1886 45-70 conversion to 50 cal. questions
Well guys got my other 1886 completed, the way my boy wanted it......keep in mind it isfrom parts (a parts gun) and different from what you have seen in the past, but my boy had been wanting a scout rifle...so I guess he has one now. It has a 18.5 barrel in 50-110 with a xs scout mount and in Duraco...

Thanks for replying Mike, you've been more than kind and gracious with me in all your posts. Your points are right on and this was really what I was looking for in the beginning. Keeping in mind that the whole thing for me is about hands on learning, not about the barrel at all or where it will go.....

Re: 50-110 barrel liner questions winchester 1886
I appreciate the comment Mike, I am aware of the modifications needed on the 1886 to alter to the 50 cal. I believe that the ready-made barrels out there such as Green Mountain have just about or the same specs. as an original barrel, or at least they have some of the some specs. in 50-110. I'd sure...

I'd inlet the rear tang area about .05-.10 larger. Make sure you got real good contact at the rear of the receiver, the large area just ahead of the pistol grip if not when you get recoil it will force the rifle back into the stock........if you don't have good contact at the rear of the receiver it...

Got a question, I'm in the planning stages of a Winchester 1886 in 50-110 with the heavier bullet weights. I would like a shorter barrel though somewhere around 20 inches.
