I've aquire one that the lever jusst lays against the bottom of the grip frame was wondering which spring to look at first to see why this is happening. Amy heop would be greatly appreciated can't seem to find working prints for this on the web.?

Winchester 1873 lever question?
With the lever at rest position the lever should be just below the frame(lever not high enough to disengage the out of battery safety?). is this correct? I the lever is too high it allows the out of battery safety to be engaged or the hammer to fall, correct?

I'm not very familiar with the terms of this gun but, the main spring is fine, I managed to get it(the main spring) out of the trigger group.

From what I've researched made in 1886 have trued to disassmble to clean and remove some of the rusting. I tried the .22WRM back before I knew what ear protection was and quickly quit this caliber, never to return! I have since taken all species of small game in Illinois with .22 RF. To each their own but, not for me.

j23, does your need to be different enclude drilling a hole in the tang of your Marlin 39A? Pretty irreversible but, to each his or her own? Don't think you'll get much in resale value. Older model 39As will accept the Williams sight without modication.

One thing you may want to try first is a lighter hammer spring.Won't smooth the action but usually improves the trigger.There's also the old trick of using a piece of leather under the hammer spring where it screws into the trigger guard.That can improve the trigger.
