The shim had no effect on the ladder. It "clicks" into the upright position just like it would if it was resting on the barrel. The ladder "rung" moves up and down as before. No issues.

Re: Modify a Smith Long Range Ladder Sight

I have the lowest sight possible on my custom Marlin 1885. No way I could lower the front sight more. I had to raise the rear.
It would be very easy for Smith to build this sight with elevation adjustment.

How are other folks using this sight?

Actually it isn't the shine of the Stainless Steel, although that is a real issue. A bead blasted SS barrel looks like waving a white stick against a dark background of the forest. SS is nice, but not for hunting firearms........IMHO.... :D

That 6.2 load of Green Dot is a load I found in one of the loading guides. A friend gave me 16 pounds of Green Dot a few years ago and I've been using it in 45ACP, 38 Special and 45LC for plinking rounds. Very clean and quite accurate with recoil like a 22 Magnum. Fun to shoot.

I took it to the range last night. What a great , fast handling, little rifle. Comes to shoulder very nice and is quite accurate. With iron sights, 25yds I could keep all shots within 8" from a standing, off-hand position.
