The shim had no effect on the ladder. It "clicks" into the upright position just like it would if it was resting on the barrel. The ladder "rung" moves up and down as before. No issues.

I have the lowest sight possible on my custom Marlin 1885. No way I could lower the front sight more. I had to raise the rear.
It would be very easy for Smith to build this sight with elevation adjustment.
How are other folks using this sight?

Actually it isn't the shine of the Stainless Steel, although that is a real issue. A bead blasted SS barrel looks like waving a white stick against a dark background of the forest. SS is nice, but not for hunting firearms........IMHO....

Thanks, but it's just for fun. The CZ Magazine conversion and my 17HMR Bore Guide that I offer gives me plenty of fun money. These projects take too long and the risk is too great. Thanks! The most difficult part was sanding and grinding the attachment plate to match the forend and the receiver. I hate fussy work like this. I like running the machines and doing the math. I'd NEVER be a good stock maker. No patience! The rest was pretty simple machine work. Nothing fancy..........

I have a milling machine and I've cut loads of dovetails, There might be a bit more meat on a 44 barrel as the hole is smaller than on the 45LC. But I'm here to tell you, there ain't enough meat to cut a proper dovetail on this barrel. If I was to do it, I'd solder on a ramp. Not enough to get even ...

The only thing I would do to that carbine is grind the front sight off and istall a dovetail one on the barrel. I'd like to do this, but there isn't enough meat in the muzzle to cut a dovetail. I might solder a ramp (if there is some way to solder SS) or use a super adhesive to attach a ramp. I wan...

That 6.2 load of Green Dot is a load I found in one of the loading guides. A friend gave me 16 pounds of Green Dot a few years ago and I've been using it in 45ACP, 38 Special and 45LC for plinking rounds. Very clean and quite accurate with recoil like a 22 Magnum. Fun to shoot.

I took it to the range last night. What a great , fast handling, little rifle. Comes to shoulder very nice and is quite accurate. With iron sights, 25yds I could keep all shots within 8" from a standing, off-hand position.

Although this rifle was "worked on" by a lever action gunsmith, I found a whole bunch of rough areas inside. A couple hours with my India stones and I've got it running slick as a Korth......

I read once where there was zero documented proof that a handgun had ever been used to stop a charging Grizzly bear attack. And very few times was it effective with Black Bears.
