The level of spring noise is different as you wear different hearing protection. Plugs vs. muffs etc. I have one set of muffs when I shoot I swear all I can hear is the buffer spring. I have shot in the field hunting with no hearing protection and don't hear the buffer spring at all.

I didn't think to ask if they were going to hunt over bait or with dogs. He is hunting them in NC so it could be either way.
